you can try browing thru the GENERIC DVD PLAYERS thread #1. I discussed that unit before.
I think Ansons Makati used to price it at 7,500pesos; not 6,500 unless they had marked it down since its neighboring brand "Konka" has its DVD pegged at 6,500pesos.
Akira wins over the Konka in that Akira has many audio/video inputs; very similar to the Promac DVD-2002 infact.
However, aesthetic wise, the Akira is a bit not as "handsome" as the Konka; but definitely Akira has the looks compared to some other generic china brand dvds (like the Niva (talaga lang ha! ehehehe), sosing or khampong - which sounds like 'fried rice' in chinese actually ehehehe).
What is the disadvantage of Akira? It was told to me by the Akira personnel at Ansons that their DVD player is NOT multi-region. In fact if you read their operator's manual, it EXPLICITLY states it is a Region 3 only player.
(frown number one).
Then, the unit is not tested to be macrovision free. However, since it is NOT a multiregion player, parang even if it is macrovision disabled, its "valuability/versatility" has been greatly disavantaged. (frown number two)
and finally, it is not determined whether you can play a PAL disc into a dedicated NTSC only TV set. (frown number three)
I hope from this very general view, you can make a decision more wisely.
good luck.
