sir patupup, i think most columbia pictures DVD releases have these subtitles & are playable both on strictly r1 &/or r3 dedicated players, in other words they're multi-regional discs w/c explains the presence of those subtitles......

you might try playing your superbit collection DVDs, i have Das Boot & The Patriot w/c are r1 but could be played on strictly r3 dedicated player & they have asian language subtitles......

The two movies are indeed both in widescreen format. The individual disc inside the box has label of widescreen... so it's an error on the box...

Yes patupup, there are these asian languages for subtitles, though I didn't find it unusual for an R1 release since I already owned one R1 title (Hook Superbit) with Asian languages for subtitles.
