Yesterday at Rico's haus, I got to Preview the Chinese movie: Shaolin Soccer, DTS na me White Rabbit pa sa special features ala Matrix.
Magugulat ka pag napanood mo ito.
Baka bumili rin ako ng disc na ito,. hummmmm. ::)

Where did you saw it, Any Ide of an offline store who sells this???

I am an avid fan of Stephen Chow Flicks. And if I am not mistaken ito ang blockbuster filck in HK last Summer 2001!

I Have a Chinese DVD Flick entitled "A Man Called Hero". Wow not only the story line is superb but also the special effects!!!

I never thought that Chinese could now match CG effects of US ???

well i just got my copy of eat drink man woman
$13.67 @ DeepDiscountDVD.com

Director: Ang Lee

DVD info:
distributor: Seville (Canada)
1.85:1 16:9 Enhanced (Anamorphic)
Region 1
NTSC
DVD-9 (average 8MB bit rate!)
Audio: Mandarin 2.0 and French 2.0
Subtitle: English (removable)
animated chapter select index

Extras:
Cast and Director info
Trailer: Eat Drink Man Woman (fullscreen)
Additional Trailers: In The Mood For Love, The Seasons and Chinese Box

This movie was a real treat... everyone with their own little conflict, and the Sunday dinner was their get together for announcements, even though they all live in the same house.
As mentioned, not much communication happens between the family members. They all turn to a friend for comfort, but as these friends start to fade away or distance themselves, the characters find relief from unexpected sources. The little touches really add depth to the movie, and some comic scenes lighten up the experience.
Highly recommended, especially if you like adult oriented family dramas.

Image:
Excellent!
Color is nicely saturated, Blacks are black, and shadow detail is very good. The print is almost perfect, with only occasional tiny speckles appearing. The compression bit-rate averages at 8MBit, which is why the image is superb! The transfer is anamorphic, and also has info for full-screen/pan&scan mode!

Subtitle:
Optional English only.
Large white text with black borders, stays on-screen for proper amount of time for reading, and is correctly synced to the speech.

Audio:
Very good sounding soundtrack, since this is mostly a dialouge driven movie perfectly the Stereo 2.0 is suitable for this movie.

Y Tu Mama Tambien (And Your Mother Too) - Unrated Edition

A GREAT FILM!, from the director of Great Expectations (1998) and A Little Princess (1995)

On the surface, this is a comedic 'road trip' movie, one of the best ever made. Beneath the surface, there lies a poignant, meaningful coming of age tale.

This lively, well acted and beautifully photographed film is highly recommended!

This film is not for the sexually faint of hearth since there is a lot of frontal nudity and sex scenes to make this feel almost like a soft porn film.

this dvd is a keeper! ;)

So far I have one, Abre Los Ojos (Spain) starring Eduardo Noriega and Penelope Cruz and Najwa Nimri, directed by Alejandro Amenabar. In case you didn't know, Hollywood made a remake on this one, Vanilla Sky, starring Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz, directed by Cameron Crowe.  :D

The Pedro Almodovar's Talk to Her,  was chosen as best foreign film on the recent 2003 Golden Globe Awards. :)

haven't seen this movie yet... but i'll be waiting for it to come out on dvd, the plot line seems kinda weird with  two men in love with a comatose woman ???

I love watching foreign films.  The problem now is I don't know any store here in Manila selling a good number of this kind of movies. I used to watch a lot of them in vhs format courtesy of that store in Virra Mall ( 2nd floor )  allegedly owned/managed by  Ricky Lee. Foreign movies that I wanna see in DVD format: Europa, Europa by Agnieszka Holland, a gripping tale about the horrors of war  from the point of view of a Jewish Boy; Oliver, Oliver a domestic drama on how a family coped with the loss of a son; Passolini movies, the most memorable and I say  a "gory as gory can be"  film being his Salo; Paul Vaerhoven's films before Hollywood got the better of him; Pedro Almodovar's campy movies with the exception of Matador which ran out of copy; Jamon, Jamon where a young Penelope showed her breasts several times; Eric Roehmer's films  noted for the repartees about morality; the movies of the Chinese  excellent directors- Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige;  and more than a dozen more.  I also love the Iranian film " Children from Heaven" from where I believe Gil Portes got the idea for his movie Mga Munting Tinig.  Well, who can forget the Japanese erotic/pornographic  piece In the Realm of the Senses which Gallaga admitted , inspired him to do Skorpio Nights. I hope somebody can  give me the names of the stores where I can  buy these films.

I watched Wasabi yesterday, and it was pretty good... it's non-anamorphic, but the quality was great nonetheless on a widescreen TV...

The guy who wrote U turn and three Kings wrote this. I'm a sucker for all things blaxploitaion, even if it is a spoof, but you don't need to have that bias. Coolness. Very funny.  ;) And, of course, Denise. . . . ;D

Try Astrovision for Region 3 releases. There are some foreign titles available.

For Region 1 releases, try the DVD Marketplace section.  The sellers offer foreign titles every so often.  And their prices are definitely much better than if you get these imports from the commercial stores around Metro Manila.
