Juvenile movies on DVD
« on: Feb 25, 2002 at 03:58 AM »
Porky's is the best sex comedy I've seen on DVD, even though it has virtually no extras or special features. By the movie alone, I enjoyed it more than American Pie and American Pie 2 combined.

Fast Times At Ridgemont High is a classic, and its extras add great value. I enjoyed the interviews with the stars of the film and its director, plus there were some pretty useful pieces of info about the film that I did'nt know about before.

Revenge of the Nerds is great to watch, but it deserves a better DVD treatment.

What teen movies do you have on DVD?

Is the "Last American Virgin" available already in DVD? if so I think you count this in!!  ;D

How about the Scream Trilogy - Even though it was a Slasher Flick, I think it is consider as a juvenile flick?

Anyone Oppose?

Fast Times is the original teen flick. Others followed (even American Pie had it's elements). The extras are okay. It's good to hear some of their original stars in the interview but failed to have Jennifer Jason Leigh and Phoebe Cates in it:P .

But it's still fun to watch. It really brings back the 80's spirit.

Are these movies avaiable in R3. I have'nt seen Porky's in a long long  time, I think I was 10 or 11 then. MAn I want to see that movie again. For Fast Times at Ridgemont High I think I've never seen that before, do you guys think it's a good movie?

All those titles I mentioned are all R1 DVDs. When I was in the States DVD hunting, I figured getting classics that are unlikely to be available in R3. So far, nobody told me that Fast Times, Porky's and Nerds are available in R3 form. I asked the guys at Astrovision about those titles and they said they never heard of them nor had them listed in their upcoming DVDs list.

Does anyone here know or could confirm if the above mentioned titles are available in R3 form?

I've never seen any of them on Region 3. Since both Porky's and Revenge of the Nerds are Fox properties, I think it's doubtful - I don't even recall seeing these titles released on videocassette in this country.

I have seen a video CD of Fast Times at Ridgemont High locally. Since it's a Universal release, and they do release most of their titles on DVD eventually here, I think it's very possible we'll be seeing this title on local DVD shelves soon... or is this one out already? My mind's playing tricks on me. I'm not sure anymore.

As far as my favorite film in this genre is concerned, it's definitely Porky's as well. Hands down. What's annoying is that Fox chose to rerelease the DVD as a double feature with Porky's 2: The Next Day, instead of packaging Porky's 2 with Porky's Revenge. As bad as the last film was, I'd still want to buy it, for completion purposes.

According to the World Book Dictionary, juvenile means young/youthful/young person.

Juvenile movie refers to teen movies or films about young adults.

When I was in late Grade School and early High School, I enjoyed these kinds of movies like Zapped, Screwballs, Weird Science, My Science Project, License To Drive, 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Beuller's Day Off!!!  I wonder if all of these were released on DVDs. ???

Regarding Porky's R1, I think they are selling them for the 2 pack (Porkys 1 & 2) for $19.99.  Is this right RidgeRacer?

I'm not RidgeRacer, but I can say it's not a two-pack, it's a flipper. I'm playing my copy right now.

National Lampoon's Animal House

Porky's, American Pie, Road Trip and countless others would follow but Animal House was the original gross-out comedy and still the king. :D

unfortunately this dvd is under moratorium, so finding a dvd copy maybe close to impossible.

I just watched American pie last Friday  :)
I guess, with the success of the movie, more and more teen films (with sexual humor) emerged.   I guess seing scantily-clad and semi-nude teens in comedy flicks can really help boost a movie.

Clueless is a good juvenile film rin (without any nudity for those who are conservatives).    ;)

It's not exactly clear to me what "Juvenile" movies are, but based on the movies mentioned so far, I think can make a pretty good guess. While I liked American Pie and still get a kick out of watching teen movies, the ones that come out nowadays are mostly a rehash of themes and jokes employed in either Fast Times or Porky’s. What really kills me is that in almost all of the movies the culmination always coincides with or is the High School Prom/Dance. Based on my fuzzy idea of what a juveniles movie is, the last one I saw and remember enjoying a lot is GO. Would “The Virgin Suicides” qualify as a “juvenile” movie?
