Hello Biggs,

Almost all brands have bookshelf models. Please give us more details so we can recommend what brand to choose. Thanks.

I will edit your title to dedicate this thread for all inquiries about bookshelf speakers. Thanks

Ok, let me get the proverbial ball rolling.

Here are a few brands on the top of my head:
1) Dynaudio
2) Paradigm
3) JBL
4) B&W

As you see, I'm doing my homework on which bookshelf speakers to get so I'd greatly appreciate it if my choices can be narrowed down to what's availble locally.  Much appreciated.

Add to the list:
Sonus Faber (Concerto, Concertino)
JMLab (Electra 905, Mini Utopia)
Revel (M20)

All are available locally.  Sonus Faber at Upscale Audio, JMLab from Focal (Greenhills) and Revel at AVDriver.

I can easily name 20 brands that are locally available.  I think you should start with a budget in mind.  Bookshelf speakers can go as low as P15,000 to more than half a million pesos!!!!  Good Luck!!!

In addition to those already mentioned, here are some:

Infinity, JBL, tannoy, energy, psb, heybrook, paradigm, epos, triangle, proac, celestion, mirage, bose (hehe), mission.

Other brands that i know of, like wilson, soliloquys, etc. are much more expensive.

Good luck!!

Is that PhP20-40k per pair or per set of five for surround sound?

Per pair, there are the Dynaudio Audience, B&W CDM, Paradigm Reference, Sonus Faber Concert series.

For a complete surround set, there are the B&W 300 or even 600, PSB Alpha, Tannoy Mercury, etc.

It would help if you'd let us know more about the context you'd use these bookshelves in:  stereo or HT, the rest of your gear, your listening area/room, and your listening preferences.

Holy @#%$!!! Sonus Fabers sound great, but they're WAY out my budget!  On the cheaper side of things, does anyone have AR's here?  They're so much cheaper than BWs, and sound pretty ok to me.  Any feedback on the older AR PS series?  I feel left out amongst the big named, high-end (and priced) beauties!

AE Aesprit 300C, B&W DM 601 s3, Infinity Alpha 20, Jamo E800, JBL LX2002, JPW 202, Wharfedale Pacific Pi-10.

Biggs,
Pare, to tell you the truth, you should start listening to the speakers recommended by our bro's here at pinoydvd. Rather than asking for bookshelf speakers available (this will confuse you more), better start auditioning. You will find that the more you listen, you can easily sort out the pretenders to the cream of the crops! :) I will not name any brands here so you can honestly have a choice. Also, you will have your "own" likes and dislikes from it's looks to it's sound and your preferred "sonic" signature. All speakers have their own "sonic" signature and from my experience the preference varies from listener to listener therefore we are all buying different set of speakers. :) It will boil down to 2 or 3 speakers that have their own pluses and minuses where you can't decide which one to finally get. This is where, price,  sheer gut and dealer friendliness comes into play.  Hope this helps! Just my 2 cents.. Goodluck! :)

biggs,
it's very important that you specify what particular amp/rcvr you'll be using, whether for a/v or just for music (b&w's & mission's are the all-rounders that would first come into mind) and of course the price
range (or budget). having listened to hundreds of speakers, can recommend a few which have made a
lasting impression if not having made an impact on my
listening experiences. speakers (imho) can best be
evaluated with listening to music (cd or lp). here's my list:
less than P15,000
1. sound dynamics rts-3
2. b&w dm-302 & dm-303
3. mission  771e
4. heybrook hb- 0.5 & hb-1
5. epos 11 & 14
6. mordaunt short ms-10i
7. monitor audio ma-1 gold ma-7
8. acoustic energy aegis one
9. tannoy m2
10. nht super zero
11. ar m-1
12. b&w 601s3
P15,000-P25,000
1. sound dynamics sd-300ti
2. b&w 602s3
3. mission 780
4. sonus faber concertino (used)
P25,000-P50,000
1. sonus faber concerto
2. b&w cdm-1nt
3. triangle titus with stand
for the less than P100,000 range my choice is still the B&W Nautilus 805.
i hope this list helps; just don't forget, your pair of ears are your best judge.

Friends,

Actually I'm using a pair of NHT Model 2.5 floorstanders at the moment.  I currently don't have the budget to get new ones(and I'm quite satisifed with the NHTs anyway) but your suggestions might come helpful in the future.  My primary preference is good old-fashioned stereo music since, more often than not, I don't watch movies.

Assuming everything else is constant, would a high-end bookshelf be a good replacement for entry-level floorstander?

Cheers,
Biggs

Hi Biggs!!

If you can find a Mission 780, try to audition. It sounds big including its bass. Very good bookshelf for the price.

Cybermms, erm, are you trying to say the Mission 780 bookshelf speakers are better than my current NHT 2.5 tower speakers for stereo music?  We all know it is subjective but I like to know your opinion.  Btw, how much does the 780 costs nowadays?

Cheers,
Biggs

hi Biggs,
i once auditioned the NHT floorstanders against the sonus faber concertino (bookshelf) side by side in the store and i liked the concertino better although the floorstander has a deeper bass. for sound clarity, a high-end bookshelf will outperform an entry level floor-stander.

I haven't heard the NHT 2.5 so I can not  judge. They are not comparable. But the Mission's will compete very well with bookshelves of other Brands, i.e. B&W, Infinity, JBL's.

Your NHT's should probably be matched vs. Mission 782 (floorstander).

SRP of 780's is P21k, 782's P51k.

Biggs,

If you do proceed with the bookshelf speaker route, as opposed to the floorstanders, and you still find yourself longing for deeper bass reproduction (40 Hz and below), then add a good active subwoofer to your audio system. The Velodyne's and M&K's come to mind.

I'd recommend the SF Tinos for their extremely detailed mids, excellent and smooth roll-off on the higher trebles. IMHO, the least fatiguing sound coming from a pair of "bookshelves" in its price range.   ;)

But with everything said and done, the most expeditious and rewarding solution to your "predicament" is to do the auditioning yourself. Let your own taste in music decide.  8)

Hi to all! I'm looking for a good/best bookshelf speaker at PhP7k level, to be used for home theater and audio listening (50/50)

Below is my current set-up

AVR - Yamaha RXV-495
DVD Player - Pioneer 535K
Front - Old Pioneer speaker
Center and Rear  - Yamaha package (forgot the model)

No subs yet, but based from what i gathered here, DQ120 is the best for below PhP 10K, im planning to buy this also together with the bookshelf speaker.

Appreciate your help on this.

Thanks. :)

You can try to audition our A-audio custom made speakers.  It could be comparable or even better sounding than speakers for that price range.  Check them out:

http://photos.yahoo.com/nirvblakr

You'll be surprised with the audio quality for the price range.  Try to contact me at 09175298004 if you're interested.  Thanks!

How much would it cost me for the following package:

CENTER (Like B&W LCR3)
FRONT (Like B&W DM303)
SUB (Like DQ120)

Or if you have other suggestions na pwedeng katulad na brand/model of speaker na mas maganda for a good and reasonable price, please tell me.

Marami na bang kumuha sa yo ng custom-made speakers mo, kamusta naman ang feedback.
