hey japjag
i dont know if the energy take5.2 is available, but i saw the 5.1 at upscale audio. i think it was selling for 34k with an 8" sub. not sure though, and it was some time ago, check it out, but if it is 34k, i think you're better off with the dm303 but that's just me. try auditioning it first.
goodluck.

btw, just to add to your confusion, the mission m73/m7c1 sounds great too =) hehehe

baron:thanks but my room is small, kaya nga avr2000 na harman kardon ang binili ko, I'll buy a more powerful one evntually so its ideal for me that i setup bookshelves and a sub, the encore sounds great (to me)  but with the price you gave me for the take 5 the list is now shorter, if i find the take 5 ok for music i might just take this since this has a sub already...anyway i hope i can find someone selling the 5.2 so I can audition it as well  ;D

japjag,

at your price range, also give the Mission m71/72/73 a listen.  I don't know if the PSB Alpha A/V has been replaced but that's another one that deserve a listen.  Try to locate a Tannoy Mercury M1 or ever the Revolution R1 as well.

A bit more revealing (bright to some, detailed to others) are the entry level Paradigms.

Why don't you include in your list the new Infinity Kappa 200?  ;)  It retails for less than P39K.  You can stop by our store and audition them.

Regarding which amp, you have to give us your preference.  Do you want a musical combo or an accurate combo??

Is your moniker referring to the Great Rossi of the GP500?  Isn't he just amazing?? He's so great that the GP500 is starting to bore me  ;D ;D ;D.

Cheers.

rossifumi46,

First, you'll need to define what is "best" for you.  What music do you listen to?  What sonic character are you after (revealing/warm/neutral/etc.)?  What will your ancilliary components be?  What is the size and character (bright?) of your room?

I recently helped a friend put together a system based on a speaker at your price range.  We listened to the SF Concerto Home, Mission 782 (not a bookshelf), Aliante Stile, Dynaudio Audience 40/50, etc.

We liked the Concerto Home best (we prefer it smooth, warm, liquid) but we could not afford the US$2k+ amps that would do the Concerto justice in the largish room (e.g., CJ CAV50, Plinius 8200, Audio Analogue Puccini SE Remote, YBA Integre).

We ended up with the JMR Twins mkII.  It's also a warm and smooth (vs. say the more neutral and revealing B&W CDM 1NT) but still more neutral than the SF's.  It's 90db efficiency makes it easier to partner (we ended up with the Audio Analogue Puccini).  Source selected is the Arcam CD72 with QED Qunex2 I/C and Analysis Plus speaker cable.

See my detailed listening notes at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pinoydiophiles.

Hope this helps.

Rossi,

We are located in New World Hotel, corner makati ave. and pasay road.  We are at the lobby shops of the hotel and can be reached at 811-6715.  A possible mate for the kappa is a conrad johnson amp/pre-amp combo or a CJ integrated.  Perhaps a mc cormack amp might be a good choice as well.  The kappas are neutral sounding speaker but not sterile.  It simply reproduces whatever the rest of the chain is giving it.

Yes, next year's GP will indeed be very interesting.  I hope Rossi stays with Honda since I'm a Honda fan  :) :) :) We are asians afterall  8) 8) 8)

i am going to replace my 15-year old Bose Continental  fronts with another pair of bookshelf.

the parameters are:

a) must sound well with 2-channel audio as a priority
b) music ranges from classical to pop to classic rock (no jazz)
c) i don't like using a subwoofer, so it must be able to produce bass well (not boomy and definitely not subsonic)
d) listening room with dimensions of 6m x 6m (left side is open to another 6m or so), ceiling about 10m
e) currently use 110W per ch. JVC a/v receiver with Boston Acoustics CRC center and VRS Micro surround speakers

i have the following in my shortlist:

1. Acoustic Research AESPRIT 300
2. Boston Acoustics VR-M50
3. Energy Veritas 2.1
4. Mordaunt-Short 902

I would appreciate your comments on my list

Oh, i forgot to include. :-) the most i am willing to spend is 66k, which is the price of Veritas 2.1. but it's got to be worth it.

Analysis Plus is carried by Sounds & Images Cebu's Ferdi.  His number can be found here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Pinoydiophiles/files/Pinoydiophiles%20Directory.xls

People over at Upscale Park Square say that among solid state amps driving Sonus Faber, the Perreaux is good but both the Plinius and SF Musica beat it.

At this price range, you ought to be auditioning more speakers.

Specific models that come to mind are:

1--Dynaudio Contour 1.1 (you can go even cheaper with the Audience series), would need good power from your amps though

2--Sonus Faber Concerto (pretty tough to matching electronics though)

3--Jean Marie Reynaud Twins mkII (the local distributor swears this sounds really good even with entry-level Yamaha receivers)

4--Mission 783 (floorstanders)

5--Piega P4 (also from where you say the Energy)

6--B&W CDM series and Paradigm Reference Studio 40/60 (more detailed, neutral than the lusher, warmer Sonus and JMR)

7--ProAc Tablette 2000 or Aiante Stile from Audio Den

Lots of listening notes and comments on these speakers can be found at:
