There's actually a big difference.
I started with +R because I was impressed with this technical article (kahit hindi ko naintindihan) entitled "
Why DVD+R(W) is superior to DVD-R(W)", June 2003, by Michael Spath:

My personal views:After about 70 burns, I now use only
DVD-R for the following reasons:
1. Compatibility: +R has higher compatibility with writers, but -R has higher compatibility with standalone players.
All +R blanks I've tried are compatible with my Lite-on writer, but some of them are incompatible with older standalone players, even if set to ROM booktype. Naniwala rin ako sa sinasabi nila tungkol sa high compatibility ng +R or +RW with ROM booktype bit setting, pero from my experience, hindi pala totoo.
Many -R blanks are incompatible with my Lite-on writer. But in the instances where the -R disc is compatible with my writer, the burned -R disc always plays perfectly in all of the standalone players I've tried. (The oldest player I've tested is a 2001 model)
2. Scratches on disc: +R discs get scratched by the drive.
Out of around 70 discs successfully burned, 5 of my +R discs were scratched by my Lite-on drive and both of my Pioneer players. It's a deep scratch, perfectly concentric, usually about 3 inches long.
I've asked several people to explain it, but only one of them gave me a reasonable explanation. He theorizes that the scratch is caused when the disc's spin is not level. A momentary wobble on a spinning disc, even for a fraction of a second, causes a portion of the disc surface to come into contact with an internal part of the drive, thereby causing the scratch.
This has never happened on any of my -R discs.
