11.1 Atmos upgrade
« on: Aug 06, 2005 at 03:18 PM »
September 2015 update

Recently upgraded to an Atmos set-up.  Atmos really works, it's night and day difference compared to my previous 5.1 set up.  I installed six 8-inch yamaha in-ceiling speakers for front height, rear height, and also for my L/R surround. The Denon 7200wa is a 9 channel amp with 11.2 processing, so I used my old yamaha rxv1400 receiver to add 2 channels to the Denon receiver.

The 1080p Benq w1070 still works well after 2 years on a 150" screen.  The video comes out super bright and sharp.

(Benq w1070; Playstation4; Denon AVR-X7200WA; Yamaha rxv-1400; B&W 601 S3; B&W ASW600; B&W LCR60 S3; B&W 600 S3)

Thanks.  Got it also from AVDI, in Shangri-la.  I'm using component video connection; do you think it's worth upgrading to a DVI-D capable DVD?   :)

I'm also thinking of that upgrade but I think the best thing to do is to let AVDI try it first. They have all the equiptment needed and I'm sure they won't let us down on our request. If you happened to view the dvi first kindly post it here and in case if I'll be the first one then I'll post it here also. Maganda na nagtutulungan para ma-improve natin pareho home theater set-up natin
 :)  :)
Ano nga pala gamit mo na ceiling bracket para sa 4805 kasi alam ko may dumating na sa avdi na bracket daw?

Hi Atty Jomonds  :).

I am waiting for the new model DVI/HDMI PJs (panasonic AE900 or Sanyo Z4) to come out. BUT, I believe I will still use component cables. DVI/HDMI cables are very very expensive, much more for the long 8-10m variants for projectors. I saw 10m HDMI cables in HongKong priced at over P65k (last year)! DVI is cheaper, maybe P20k.

Unless you will put your projector in front of you in a table with the DVD player, then that would be no problem, the free 2m cables that come with the DVI capable DVD players would be good enough. In my case, another solution would be to put the projector in a shelf behind you and the DVD player beside it. But its just a bit awkward when you press the remote, you have to point backwards  ;D.

There are  (720p, 1080i) DVD players that can upconvert through component cables. So just look for these players and your 4805 is rocking!

Suggestion lang... :)

I did not ceiling mount it, as I think it will be more convenient to keep it table-mounted as I always adjust  the zoom lens depending on the aspect ratio of the movie.  It also allows me to cover the lens and switch off the PJ when not in use  (the 4805's fan keeps running if you've turned it off thru the remote and not thru the PJ's switch. I'll let you know in case I get the chance to compare DVI with component cables on the 4805  :)

Wow, Matzter, I didn't realize those DVI cables could be that expensive.  In which case, I think the option of having the DVD side by side the PJ will be an acceptable option.  Thanks for your suggestions!   :)

Sir Jomonds,

Just wanted to ask how you maintain your DIY screen. Does it get dusty? Do you vacuum it, or wash it?

Thanks in advance sir  :)
