RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS is a fascinating look at how J.R.R. Tolkien’s literary masterpiece “The Lord of the Rings” has influenced pop culture for the past fifty years and spawned a global community of loyal and colorful fans affectionately known as “Ringers.” ~ Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Release Date: 11/22/2005

Guys,

Sorry for my ignorance, I posted this question earlier on the R3 section and it just occured to me that this belongs in the R1 section.  :-[ Anyway, what is/are the difference between the platinum series extended ed. and the exteded ed. boxed set, if there is any.

Thanks,

Ron

So disk contents and inserts are all the same, xcept for the leathery box that encloses all three individual movies? Why not call it LOTR Platinum Series Extended Edition Boxed Set?  ;D

BTW, thanks for the info...  :)

Hey everyone! Nice to find community such as this exist! I'm new so be gentle...

Anyway, I am looking for The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Special Extended DVD Edition) box set . I'm willing and am a serious buyer. So, just PM me.

Another question, the one I am looking for above, is the ROTK in it the same as just the single one ROTK Extended Edition? The one that has additional 50 minutes of footage? If so, I will be interested to buy just the ROTK.

And to those who have seen it (the extended ROTK), does it have any additional scenes/character information on Eowyn and Faramir?

Thanks a mil! :)

hello! welcome to the forum!

you may create a thread if you're looking for DVDs here ----> click me!

the pix posted above consist of the 3 extended editions compiled in to 1 boxset meaning you will receive 3 sealed individual extended releases plus the box.

cant remember the contents pertaining to Eowyn and Faramir (viewed the discs long time ago).

:)

Tried to google it but now i'm really confused! ??? Help me clear this out...how many dvd versions does LOTR really have?  I've counted 5 so far, or are some of them one and the same?

1. Theatrical edition
2. Extended Edition
3. Special Extended Edition
4. Platinum Series Extended Edition
5. Ultimate Boxed Set Edition

Thanks,

Ron

No. 1, the theatrical version contains 2dvds and as the name implies, the version we saw in the cinemas.

Numbers 2-4 are all identical, containing 4 dvds per movie (for the boxed trilogy - 12 discs). This version contains scenes not included in the theatrical version hence the name extended (Platinum Series is a signature of New Line which owns these BMF ;))

The Ultimate boxed set edition may refer to the gift set they have where each boxed set contains different busts (as in replica) or the may refer to the entire trilogy (theatrical or extended versions) all in one box.

 "get it all" :)
The Lord Of The Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Widescreen Edition) (2001)

This is essential because all the features here are not included in the extended editions.  Watch these first before watching the extended edtions.

The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Special Extended DVD Edition) (2004)

get this one because of the slip case

and get all these for the figure and other bonuses. :)

this one happened to me a long time ago with my FOTR-EE.. second disc freezes after the "You Shall Not Pass!" scene. cleaned the disc, cleaned the head (player), played with SONY, Samsung, JVC, returned to seller. nothing helped.

i bought a new pioneer dvd player. problem solved.

I would prefer the Platinum Series EE (Region 1) because it features DTS ES 6.1 Track, in addition to the standard DD Track.  :)

Aside from the DTS track, it also contains commentaries from the director and actors. It also has tons of documentaries that are not included in the other release. If you are just after the movie itself and don't care about the making of lotr, casting, special effects, etc..., go with #2.
