why does a loose banana plug or interconnect cause humm minsan sa speakers?
care to share on tips on you guys connect your speakers to the amp?
1.)is it better to use banana plugs?(prone to getting lose)
2.)or directly connecting the wires to the binding jacks
A loose interconnect creates a ground loop, there is no return path for the signal so it returns itself in the same conductor as the signal itself, that's why it hums. As for a loose speaker wire, it severely degrades the signal by creating a high impedance path. So in a simpler sense, instead of having more music, you get less because some is lost in the loose connection.
The best connector in the world is still, no connector.
If possible, connect your speaker wires directly to you speakers and amplifiers. However, for convenience sake, banana plugs are employed especially if you move the wires around from speaker to speaker often, I would recommend you use high quality plugs, but even then they can still oxidize and suffer from loose connections. A periodic maintenance is a very good practice, I use toothpaste to clean them plug after a cycle in an ultrasonic cleaner.
