I have one. It serves the purpose of being portable as it has rechargeable power. You can convert your vinyls to MP3s. Not for the audiophile of course but it's nice to have one inside your bedroom if you have vinyls. This is what sparked my vinyl journey. Now it's just being used sparingly as I have a Rega for my system. I'm selling it now actually

Hello guys, pls. Help.
I recently acquired a japan surplus pioneer tt  PL 1250s, manual..lateky, the speed is erratic. Sometimes fast then suddenly it slows dow. I tried cleaning, the potentiometer by spraying them  with contact cleaner bt. To no avail. Can u recommend any good repairman of tt , particularly someone who is familiar with pioneer tt? Thanks!

I'd advise to buy the RP1 performance pack or step up to an Rp3.

I recommend the Rp1 performance pack. I recently had the upgrade and its worth it. Sound opened up more coming from stock. Plus its really affordable.

Thanks for your replies. I'm kinda hesitant to do the upgrade because my issue with the RP1 are the ff:

1. Belt drive. I believe it's better to have a direct drive but I maybe wrong. I'm just thinking about the belt that will be loose in time.
2. The interconnect is not replaceable. I find the Cable flimsy.
3. Manual speed change. This is really a hassle.
4. Weight. I find it light and with that, issue on stability.

Your thoughts please guys. Thanks,

Your thoughts please guys. Thanks,

1) matter if choice, but belt drives now are fairly reliable. Belt of course will need replacing, bit this is dependent on how much you play. Belt drives are supposed to isolate the motor from the platter, leading to less vibration and noise coming from the motor.

2) I find the interconnects in most tables probably the last item you should replace, unless it is already frayed and grounded. The cable is fine.

3) one more reason to get an RP3, since you can use the TT PSU of Rega, which automates the speed switch. In any case, speed switching hassle depends on whether you always switch between 33 and 45 evry time you play.  Most of my LPs are 33 so this is less of a problem.

4) you need to just place it on a stable platform, as most of the mass is in the platter anyway.  Rega tables are not massive anyway, even up to the higher-end models.

HTH.

Very well said.

Also, Rega designed their tables to be light, as Roy Gandy's belief is that Mass stores energy, hence the "light" designs.

Any user feedback here for the Audio Technica 1240 TT? I'm planning to get one to replace my RP1.

It's ok but like all Hanpin (China) made turntables (Stanton, Reloop, American Audio, Audio Technica, the new Pioneer PLX-1000, etc), their internal components are cheaply made plus the speed sensors are prone to malfunction due to optical sensor. Unlike the SL1200, it's main diecast frame is the entire heatsink. As to the internal heatsinks that Hanpin installed and generates a lot of heat. Wow and flutter is much higher than of the 1200. Feedback is bad and these 1200 copycats just can't do it right.

So I would suggest to just find a used (good condition) 1200 and or a beaten up one, have it refurbished (self promotion here. Hehehe!) and use it for the next 30 years without worries.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNzMcH2ZbtU#t=887

Basically, the internals of the Pioneer PLX-1000 (video link above) is very similar to the rest of Hanpin made turntables.

Good that you like it. Brings the budget turntable to another level for a reasonable cost.
