mac- iceman90a can easily help you, check your set-up and re-set your turntable. I have full confidence in him and his skills. You will be a happier turntablist after he makes a house call.  ;D Once you learn the skills from him, time to teach another... ;D

Actually, there are many of you guys in San Pedro who are into analog. After the fix, it's time to join their sessions! ;D

Actually, I would suggest you have your new found buddies check out your rig BEFORE you put the nice records. The reason being that an improperly set cart or a damaged one can damage a nice clean LP. That will be a sad and painful waste. There is no harm in having it checked before you spend. I suggest this to prevent a heartache. :(

Merely moving a ttable from one location in the room to another changes the 'settings'. What more if the table is sold, changes hands, tansported, sold again(to you), you bring it home, you put it on your rack..so many things can happen along the way...Eventhough it was set properly, those settings are gone.

A friend of mine has a Pioneer PL-J5000-W. The voltage of the unit is 110V. According to him, a friend of his accidentally plugged it into a 220 v wall socket. Can this still be repaired? And is it possible that plugging it into a 220v outlet could have damaged other parts of the turntable?

Also, is the said turntable a good model?

Looks like a new/recent automatic entry level ttable from Pioneer:

Can't read Japanese, but it looks like it uses a P-mount cart.

You will have to have it checked to see if more parts are damaged. Try Pioneer service. They maybe able to order parts. If the cost is too much, you might be better off getting a pre-owned ttable.

any feedback po on this turntable? how much is the going rate for it locally?
i see it advertised online for as low as $99.00. is it any good? all i want is
a brand new, reasonably price TT for our limited record collection - mostly
japan issued LP's of 60-70's era.

Turntable newbie... help!!!!
« Reply #555 on: Jun 14, 2007 at 02:36 PM »
Hi guys, i need your help. Plan ko kasi mag try ng turntable setup, for the following reasons
    1. Gusto ko try kung masarap ba talagang magpahinga habang nakikinig ng kanta coming from an analog source

Kaso ang problema, newbie ako dito, as in wala talago akong alam  :o...

1. For an entry level TT, mga magkano yung price nya? I've seen some 2nd hand TT sa Makati Cinema square worth around 5k - 6k? Mas ok ba yun? Yung brand new na entry level, mga magkano?

2. Kung brand new bibilhin ko, ano tatak yung maganda? which store kaya meron?

4. After kong makabili ng TT, ano ano yung dapat kong gawin upon installation, may calibration pa ba ako dapat gawin?

salamat!!!

1.  Maraming klaseng entry level TT, yung mga "new production" at yung surplus.

4.  Anu-ano ang maintenance ng TT?  Depende yan sa TT na gagamitin mo.

Sana'y makatulong ito sa iyo.  :)

if the turntable unit's spin is stable and you don't hear any rumbling sound, puwede na yan. kung stylus lang ang kailangan mo, contact members on this forum who could lead you to sources in Raon -- less than P300 for popular cartridge models. Kung sira ang pick-up, i have over a dozen available and maybe i could spare you one. i'm not a trader but i sometimes share some of my gear to guys who want to hear true hifi (not necessarily new production and expensive gear) but don't have the budget for expensive gear. last year, i sold a Technics turntable to a member here for P1K. who knows, i could give an Audio Technica AT-10 cart with original AT-10 stylus and 2 original spare AT11 at only P1K. if you'd check online, a non-original AT-11 stylus sells for roughly $20 each. this is not an offer though, but i do get crazy sometimes.

Sir Sandawa,
Are you feeling crazy today? hehe baka pwede mo ako bigyan ng turntable at a reasonable (cheap) price ;)

Anyway, medyo OT... Ano ba pwedeng panglinis ng mga vinyls, i have some kasi na may mga mantsa na medyo mahirap tanggalin pag pinupunasan ko lang ng tuyong basahan e... pwede bang basang basahan ang gamitin? or Washable ba ang mga vinyls??? ??? :)

Thanks and God Bless ;)

reynold,

there are commercial solutions available for cleaning vinyls. as an alternative, you can also use joy liquid diluted in distilled water.

if you want, you can also have the vinyls cleaned at the record shop beside rene rivo's shop. they have a vacuum for lps.

Looks like a case of mildew. Medyo mahirap tanggalin yan. I have some LPs like that. Despite many cycles of cleaning, it remains. As long as it doesn't affect playback, it's fine. If it does, time to look for another copy...

reynold,

first, no guarantees that the records will come out very clean. as stereophile pointed out, mildew is hard to remove. but if you want to try, use a very minute amount of joy, just enough to produce bubbles. best if you use distilled water. you can use your finger to gently rub the surface of the vinyl, following the direction of the grooves.

rene rivo used to post actively here. he restores vintage audio gear and sells equipment as well. his shop is along calatagan street, makati near cash and carry.
