« on: Sep 05, 2005 at 09:46 AM »
pls enligthen me, if gagamitin ko ay yamaha 450, which is a 6.1 unit, does this mean hinde ko na kailangan ng 5.1 na dvd player dahil yun mga speakers naman ay nakakabit sa avr, tama ba ako? and yun nakakabit lang sa player is yun video to tv and yun audio papuntang receiver but the speakers itself nakakabit sa receiver? thanks

Ofcourse you still need a 5.1 DVD player.  Saan kukuha ng 5.1 audio source yung receiver mo?  All DVD players are 5.1.

Perhaps you mean DVD players with 5.1 analog RCA output, right?   If your receiver can accept digital toslink or digital coax (RCA) connections from your DVD player, then, you don't need a DVD player with 5.1 analog terminals.  All DVD players have at least one Digital terminal through which the 5.1 digital information goes through.

Hi, I'll try to answer your query. My instant answer is YES, you dont need a 5.1 output capable player (I'll assume it's 5.1 analog output). You can connect it direct digital (either optical or coaxial) set your Receiver to Digital input "ON" and it will read either DD or DTS or DD-EX or DTS-ES depending on you software.

My second answer is, if you will playing DVD-A & SACD in the future, you need a universal player, then you will need those 5.1 analog connections in order to enjoy the high resolution audio recording.

and yun nakakabit lang sa player is yun video to tv and yun audio papuntang receiver but the speakers itself nakakabit sa receiver? thanks

If you will be connecting only one source better connect the player directly to your  TV.
If you will connect your DVD via "Stereo " connections (Red & White) you will not enjoy those Discrete 5.1 & 6.1 but you will using only those Dolby Prologic or DTS Neo etch..... You need digital connection.

I am not entirely famliar with the model but you can check it out at the yamaha consumer electronics website and I think they have photos of back panels there.  I am almost certain that all AVRs that came out this year have digital toslink or coax input.  So if your player has digital output, you can still enjoy 5.1 sound via the digital connection.  Either Toslink or Coax will do, not both.
