starting audio setup
« on: Sep 14, 2005 at 11:10 PM »
Guys just want to ask something I’m planning to have a audio setup and ive been reading a lot in this forum and other audiophile forums.  And I hope you could help me what equipment that will be suitable for my listening pleasure.  I mostly listen to new wave, trance, rnb, hiphop and rock.  With this kinds of music what amp should I get? A tube amp or solid state/integrated amp? That will give perfect detailed/clarity in my music.  Some times I also listen to oldies music.  Im planning to go for floorstander speakers so what brand of speakers do you think is best for audio listening?

Thanks in advance God bless!

Rotel 02 integrated amp
Monitor Audio B4 - Floorstanding Speaker
NAD 521bee cd player

This setup can rock your world,
if you can find this in used market.
it would be better

If you start with a budget, that would help narrow down your choices.

Hi Z,same pala tayo preference in music. IMO solid state will be the best for you para hindi ka mabitin kahit i crank up mo volume ;D although i tried playing slow rock and new wave with my wife's tube amp ok din naging malambing yung dating, its a different experience talaga.Yung suggestion ni audionuts would be a great setup although biased kasi ako sa JBL kasi it rocks. ;D ;D ;D

tnx ricky for your recomendations. pansin ko nga kasi most users of tube amp only plays vacals, soft, classical musics.  and if im going to play loud musics baka di kayanin.  plan ko sana speaker is wharfedale diamond 9.6 or jbl northridge e series any feedback on this?

Audition the tubes or SS with your CD's. That way you will know what is best for you.

hello good people of pinoydvd.com,

i recently bought an altec lansing gt-5051 and i'm quite happy with it's performance in my small room. it's a true 5.1 system using side-firing dipole system that serves as the surrounds.

i just have a neophyte's question on audio setup:

the gt5051 only has analog inputs... there are no digital audio inputs... can i use a digital receiver to act as a go between?

if yes, can you guys recommend 1 or several models?

thanks,

kaitan

I pretty much have a decent HT set up and very happy with it but I am using it more for audio now than HT... Having a budget of about P10,000 to P15,000, what can I add to my set up to make it more suitable for audio (digital lang po bec I'm not yet into LPs  ;D)?
One caveat though, I don't want to replace any gears in my set up now (if possible)... magdadag-dag lang po... sana matulungan nyo ako

TIA  ;)

My gears now:

Denon AVR-1906
Denon DVD-1920 (doubles as CDP aside from DVD, DVD-A, & SACD)
Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 - fronts
Wharfedale Diamond CS - center
Wharfedale Diamond SR - surrounds
Polk Audio PSW10 - subwoofer

I just got a new (2nd hand) cd player from a fellow pdvd member. It's a 5 disc JVC cd player from singapore. Iba pala talaga ang tunog ng cd player lang compared to DVD multi-format player. I just hooked the cd player sa cd input ng aking Onkyo AVR at sa aking pandinig ay may malaking pagbabago sa details ng sound being reproduced amplified by my AVR. In your opinion, will getting a separate integrated amp for my cd player gives me more audio listening pleasure? I'm contemplating on buying one kasi but my budget is only for say Php 5K.

I have already read the post and apparently it's rated output is only 35 watts rms per channel only but accrding to the NAD AVR thread, nad is an underrated amp. It actually can provide more than the rated output since it is a high current one. But for the meantime, i'll just use na lang muna yung aking AVR, untill such time na may makita akong better option sa PDVD market place. Maybe if i'll switch on my active sub while playing music will enhance further the sound details especially the low frequency. BTW, i'm using wharfs 8.3 as my fronts and my active sub is a wharfedale PC12 (12" subwoofer powered by 150 wrms amp).
