maybe u should not look at the packaging, try to concentrate on the contents.

A bit lost are we? Last time I checked, this board didn't have a Philosophy forum.

There are DVD users that are really particular about everything. Some wont mind even if it has the worst case, but others do.

There are only 2 peeves of mine as it concerns dvd cases:

cardboard covers---such as what warner bros. uses. I can't think of them as something that will last long. Even if you take good care of them.

Any case that you have to PRY a disc from.

Uh, I know. What were they thinking? ::)

Here's a tip, instead of bending the disc to pry
it out of its case, try bending the side of the case
that holds the disc. This way, you don't run the risk
of damaging your discs. ;)

I love boxed sets. They're so pretty to look at (sigh).

Sopranos, Stargate, Stanley Kubrick, Planet of the Apes, X-Files, The Prisoner, Thunderbirds, Superman, Fantasia, Toy Story, and those anime boxed sets. Especially when their spines form a special design when standing side-by-side. :'(

Yeah, box sets are cool. I like the idea of it, having a complete series or a complete set of movies and its sequels in one whole package is really nifty. Box set packaging I so far like is the one for the Sopranos. I really like those fold out things, very much like that of the Unbreakable DVD.

Actually, if you keep it in its cardboard holder, it's about the same size as the regular DVDs, and stacks nicely beside them on a shelf. But then again, it's in danger of falling, unless you squeeze it in between two other titles.

On to other interesting package designs:

I actually like the packaging of the Planet of the Apes TV Series DVDs - a single thick plastic keep case that opens up three ways, with 4 discs and liner notes. Haven't seen anything like that before.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season One (R2)'s box opens up into a cross. Very appropriate!

T2: UE casing
Update:

Got T2:UE R1 from a friend who went to CA last December.  I don't know which store they got the DVD but was disappointed to see that the supposed-to-be metal case is now a "metal-looking" stiff cardboard case.

Is this the way it is or have they changed it (due to cost-cutting)?  :(

Aside from the cover, everything inside seems to be intact. :)

Hi edomingo!

There's another thread here on Keep vs. Snap Case, that you may want to look at.

But briefly:

Amaray and/or Keep Cases are names used interchangeably for the full plastic case with the clear plastic sleeve covering for the title insert. Amaray happens to be the more popular manufacturer for Keep cases, thus keep cases are called Amaray. These are mostly used by Columbia / Tristar Home Video.

Snap or Snapper Cases are those that have a cardboard cover snapped to a plastic DVD holder. These are used mostly by Warners.

Hope this clarifies rather than confuse the issue further.

just received my The Evil Dead (Book Of The Dead Limited Edition) and it's cool! 8) it looked like it was made from human flesh! :o

the only thing is this rubber case stinks!..it smelled like gasoline, so i had to bring it out to the garage, and let it sit there for a few days. i think they rushed the curing process of the rubber.

so i'm voting this as Best looking and Worst smelling DVD Packaging!  :)

i've read somewhere that if you place the evil dead "book package" in the fridge for a while, when you take it out, it would feel like dead flesh...  hehehe...   ;D

Hmm...the best packaging may have to be a two-way tie between Evil Dead and Pearl Harbor Vista Series --- i just saw it at ign.com, and though I didn't really dig the movie, the packaging looks sweeeeet.

Worst? In a practical sense, I'd have to say the X-men and the Unbreakable Vista Series shiny foil-finish cases. Why? They're real pretty, but if I have to carefully wipe them free of smudges and fingerprints every time I hold them, then they're a real hassle in the long run.

I admit - I prefer buying R1 DVD's because they have better packaging, and sometimes - a mini booklet or innovative packaging. It sometimes pisses me off whenever someone gives reviews and not even mention if a leaftlet or booklet or something extra is included. Post your DVD's here na love niyo ang packaging or overall presentation (not the features ng disc but the way the whole shebang was packed).

My favorite will still be:

Next in my buying list (if anyone has this - PM me)

Armitage - Dual Matrix Lunch Box Set
Edition Details:
• Region 1 encoding (US and Canada only)
• Animated, Color
• Limited Edition Metal Lunch Box includes an exclusive Armitage figurine by McFarlane Figurine
• Plus the Special Edition DVD that includes:
• "Assembling Armitage" Featurette
• "5.1 Music Player"
• Character Design Gallery
• Pioneer Animation Previews
• 16 page Armitage Special Collectors Character Guide

 ;D Here's my list:

T2 UE Tin Case- that's given
Fight Club - Cool!
Moulin Rouge - Bloody cool!
Se7en- Dark yet...cool
Amelie- It's green but the round window with the smiling Audrey Tautou in it is irresistible; and
Rambo Trilogy SE - Just got this one for a nice price and  the Tin metal case with embossed fonts and a buffed Stallone is really spectacular!! The metal is thick and heavy unlike the T2 case. The discs are contained in a book-like clear casing. However, the exterior is not really fingetprint-proof. But it's ok. The whole thing must weigh more than a kilo!

And now the Worst:

Sixth Sense Vista series - The new packaging is really cute. But can you believe that I have to practically use  plastic gloves just to get the whole dvd casing out of the box, because the damn thing is so fingerprint sensitive!!! And to add further annoyance, its five-fold (or four, whatever), so everytime you open it without gloves on, you leave your evidence all over. And the whole box is kinda oversized. It doesn't fit any of my dvd plastics!!!

Not the best or the worst...
But the Memento LE probably ranks as the most frustrating. Darned near flattened the thing before I got it out of the ultra-tight sleeve.
Frustrating rin ang pag-navigate through the discs.
Buti na lang the movie is worth it.  ;D

Limited Ultimate Edition
(Tin Case: 2 Disc Set)

I don't know what this movie is about.  The packaging just caught my attention.  I like the rough-look and the way they 'die-cut' the Korean (or are those Chinese) characters into the tin.  Yung tin case very Asian...MUKHA TALAGANG YERO! ;D

This one isn't best or worst but when you see the DVD you'll wonder.....is it a DVD or an encyclopedia or a bible? PICTURE is not the ACTUAL SIZE! ACTUAL SIZE is BIIIIIIGGGG!

2009 Lost Memories: Limited Edition (2 Disc Set) + Bonus "Book"

Actual size = like an encyclopedia!
Actual weight = like an encyclopedia!
Actual contents = DVD plus an encyclopedia! Actually its a book on the making of the film
[/color]

Korean DVDs are so good at DVD packagings!  ;)
