Upgrading chassis for my Custom made Integ Amp.
« on: Sep 30, 2005 at 08:21 PM »
Mga sir,

Baka may kilala kayo na gumagawa or nag su supply ng chassis for amp? I have a custom made Integrated Amplifier, It sounds good but the Physical Appearance has a very low WAF.  Ang in the closer look parang high school project yung face plate. I know that sounds is what important pero pag hindi sya tumutunog........ :P talo sa itsura. I want my Integ Amp to be very nice looking, pang display ikaw nga kasi nasa sala namin. Any help or suggestion will be highly appreciated. many thanks.

Lance

any sheetmetal fabricators with "box-benders", guilotine shears, and etc. can make a good chassis, i myself have used all aluminum chassis because it is much easier to work on. i buy my aluminum from Sulimco Metals beside Aranque market in the binondo area, then cutting and forming is done by shops nearby, there is one at t. alonzo.

Thanks for the reply Sir.

if you want it , you can have it!
only takes a lot of imagination and a lot more work, that is all there is to it!
try to have your own style and make sketches.

aluminum is easy to work on, that is why i choose it, but your are obliged to anodise it. as painting is next to impossible.

crs, mild steel are stronger but is harder to drill, cut and form, but is much easier to paint, and chrome plate!

there are lots of sheet metal shops out there, but ordering just one unit will be costly!
group buys, just like what they do at diyaudio certeinly brings down costs, economy of scale!

I had a similar project in my early days in this hobby.  Aluminum is really easy to use.  I used a 1/4" aluminum panel for the front painted in black and baked and used letter transfer for labels and had a flat fixative clear paint airsprayed over it.  But I have to admit it still looked amateurish.  IS there a way to make the aluminum have a brushed finish?  Are there better ways to label the knobs and switches other than letter transfers?

yes, there is, i used to bring my amps to Echo Metals, in hulong duhat in malabon, i am not aware of the status of that company now. back then they have capability for double anodising and printing on aluminum.

maybe some members here are have any info about that company. last time they were doing decals for National Panasonic which had their factory in taytay!

Thanks for the info.  But I might be a little challenged going all the way to Malabon or Taytay unless there are metal works shop within metro manila that can do those stuff.  Aren't there?

HDM Technologies can make any of your dream chassis. They can copy exactly branded chassis just give them drawing.

Everything is possible with HDM Technologies, aluminum panel can now anodized either clear or black on either mirror or hair line finished.

I'm very curious as to how much would this cost? Most WAF ratings don't inlcude cost.  ::)

yun ang mahirap. Pag mataas ang WAF, mataas din ang price (Most of the times.) You should choose between the trade offs. Nagkataong yung pinili ko dati ay yung magandang sounds kesa sa mataas na WAF.

I think Jun had his faceplates done there? Those were good looking ones, but I'm not sure if it came from HDM.

then now you should prepare because most metal shops these guys know will blow your WAF ratings to the roof. of course you should already know what else to prepare.

I think that chassis weighs 16 kgs!

For chassis samples, try BrianGT's gallery.

Hi Lance, HDM can do better than this, they have laser cut, wire cut, edm, CNC etch.
