So far, the only DVD that I bought that I haven't seen before buying it is Dodgeball. I missed watching it in cinemas but been wanting to. Bought it from the Astro sale before the most recent 1 and glad that I did.  :)

With all the DVD sale recently, yes, I have been buying DVDs that I missed in the movies. Or some I just dont bother to watch at all in movies and wait for it in DVD, to watch at home.

In my opinion its just the same as watching in the movies @P100/person.
Plus no traffic, parking problems/fees, costly eating out, etc.
Best of all you get to keep the DVD!
Or you can even sell it at a future time, making the watching experience a really cheaper one.

My list of unseen DVDs that I bought in the last 3 months:
Proof of Life
Romeo must Die
Pay it Forward
Guess Who
DeLovely
Closer
Be Cool
Fantasia 2000
Rescuers down under
Pacifier
Snow Dogs
Alladin 2&3
Before Sunrise
Catwoman
The Majestic
Remember the Titans
Snake Eyes
Bless the Child
Sahara
Kingdom of Heaven
Robots
Sin City
House of Wax
Longest Yard
Blade Trinity
Stealth
Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy

tindi mo tsong,  you must have a lot of dough to burn.  kahit na sabihin mong sale no.
problem with that is what if the movie sucks big time....catwoman comes to mind...
that is simply wasted money to my mind.

thing is, i dont buy it if i havent seen it and liked it...but then again, i bought the lover
without having seen it so who i am i to talk...

I just did, actually.

Brazil - Criterion Collection - I just finished watching the Directors Cut today, along with the What is Brazil? and The Battle of Brazil:  A Video History features.  Thank goodness I loved the movie, what with all the trouble I went through just to buy it, but that's another story.  I feel a bit of a headache coming though, maybe because I've spent close to 4 hours sitting in front of my TV set!  I actually appreciated 12 Monkeys more, after watching Brazil, because I noticed Terry Gilliam's touch all throughout the movie.  In fact, after watching Brazil and the 2 features, I watched The Hamster Factor and the other Tales of the Twelve Monkeys feature on my Twelve Monkeys DVD!  Sakit sa ulo  :-\

North by Northwest - haven't watched this yet, have to pick up my copy from Johnny Air.  I've read good reviews, though.  This was a super impulsive buy for me, will see if I live to regret it.

And I almost forgot, I got Memento, Say Anything, Amelie and Brotherhood of the Wolf-R3 a few months back.  Didn't regret any of those purchases either.

More DVDs which i got based on good reviews in this board and in various sites over the internet:

Chasing Amy (Criterion collection)
Seven Samurai
a bunch of Miyazaki movies - Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro
Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush
Bound
Donnie Darko

I am just a sucker for SALE prices. I just cant control myself from buying when the price is so good.  ;D

Also forgot among the titles I bought without watching yet:

Edward Scissorhands R1
Donnie Darko R1 (both recently ordered)
Old Boy R3 DTS-es

Most of the Warner Presyong Sulit I bought without knowing what to expect.  Like Sir MatZTER it was the sale price that made me decide to buy. Also nga pala I like the slip case too  ;D

Most of the art films I buy--European or Asian--are films that I haven't viewed prior to buying them. I normally just rely on the reviews of notable film critics such as Roger Ebert. Although I must admit--'minsan sablay 'yung review--sayang ang pera!  :-\

Usually every Tuesday I make it a point to buy new DVD releases even if I haven't seen them in theatres (especially blockbuster movies - a must buy!). Then I have this rental from NETFLIX to watch it, if it's worth collecting I add it to my collection or else it's back from the retailer! :-X

I try to read DVD reviews on the net before plunging on a DVD whose movie I haven't seen.  Actually, I read DVD reviews of ALL DVD releases on my wish list, whether seen on not, just to make sure the audio and video qualities are well made.

In another thread, most people opined that it makes more sense and savings to just watch DVD movies in your home than in a cinema house during their theatrical run.  I agree.  And when that happens, most of the DVDs you'd get will never have been.
