If that's the R3 packaging (which seems to be using album-style platters for the discs), it actually looks sturdier than the R1 version which uses the usual foldout style digi-pack. Btw P2,800 is confirmed. Mr. Hankey already posted this release in the shopping thread.

I just bought the set from AstroVision Glorietta. It's a 9-disc set with booklet in a cool packaging, embossed egg in front. Bestbuy talaga... Only 5 copies were released to their branch so there are now only 4 sets remaining.  :)
 :)

Buti naman at 9discs set. Sulit na sulit ito for 2.8k pesos.

OO nga limited pa ba ito? Kung marami namang stock eh later na lang ako bibili. Im saving up for my AVR and speakers eh.

Copies of Alien Quadrilogy are definitely limited according to Viva. Please post here if your Astrovision runs out of stock. By the way, reviews of the R3 set are welcome. If your review is selected, we'll feature it in the DVD Reviews section of our front page.

Yes, that's exactly the type of packaging, down to the clear yellow plastic "pages" of the album. The slip case of the 9-disc set is embossed with "metallic"-type print, and it comes with a high-quality 24 page colored booklet with program descriptions, chapter stops, cast lists/credits, and features present per disc.

Picture quality (I'm only looking at Disc One) is pristine. Anamorphic widescreen.

Language options are English 5.1 DD (For all 4 films) and English 5.1 DTS (For Alien and Alien Resurrection). Subtitles include English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese (written in Chinese calligraphy, so I don't know which dialects), Malaysian, Indonesian and Tagalog! There are pages 2 and 3 for the subtitle options in case you don't find Tagalog right away.

Sample of the Tagalog subtitles:

Quote
"Where is Earth?" - Saan ang mundo?

"You should now." - Dapat alam mo.

"It's not our system" - Hindi ito ang ating system.

"Scan." - Siyasatin.

Siyasatin;D

Best R3 buy EVER! Astro Virra Mall got 6 copies, I reserved/picked up the last one, sorry.

Not sure if Astro Greenhills (Parking Mall?) has any copies left. I don't think too many people go to that branch.

Pumunta ako sa Podium kanina at wala silang kopya kaya takbo agad ako sa Megamall. 10 copies lang meron sila at hindi pa naka-display kaya kailangang magtanong pa.

Grabe! Ang ganda--I think this is the best R3 release. At 2800, it is not only a good deal but it is rather a steal. Viva, bilib ako!

if Aliens disc is in DTS... this a better buy kasi sa R1 release only two films are in DTS soundtrack... Aliens and Alien Resurrection..

naku... baka bumili din ako nito...

Whoops!

Teka, huwag ka muna bumili. Nagkamali ako. WALANG DTS yung Aliens. Pareho lang sa R1, Alien at Alien Resurrection lang ang may DTS.

Also got my copy yesterday afternoon from Astro Virra Mall after looking for it at Astro Podium (wala pa raw silang copies at that time) and Astro Greenhills Parking Lot (they didn't even know about the boxset release. They just referred me to the Quadrilogy VCD and to the old single DVD releases).

This is definitely a GREAT BUY!  :)

i got my copy from astro SM City Cebu early this afternoon, they were given only 3 copies at isa nalang ata ang natira doon ngayon...the packaging is really world class, this could easily qualify as maybe the best r3 release so far...and at its price of only Php2,800.00, its really a steal...

got a copy na.

tanong lang, baket mas maiksi yung directors cut ng Alien (1) compared with the theatrical?? hmmm

mukang may mali din sa running time printed on the booklet.

can anyone else confirm?  ???

Yes, there is a misprint in the booklet, which says the director's cut is 110 minutes.

It's actually 115 minutes and 37 seconds.

But the director's cut is really shorter than the theatrical version, which runs 116 minutes and 25 seconds.

Here's why:

"For the Director's Cut, Scott has trimmed a few brief scenes (notably Dallas' second visit to Mother) and tightened a few others to improve the pace. He's also added a few brief extended moments, as well as a handful of new scenes. These include the crew listening to the alien transmission on the bridge of the Nostromo, Kane setting his weapon down before he looks at the alien egg on the derelict, Lambert slapping Ripley outside the infirmary, a few quick new shots when Brett goes looking for Jonesy, the infamous 'cocoon' scene near the end, and a brief shot of the alien smacking Jonesy's cage. Additional fixes made by Scott include a couple of starfield shots and revised color timing throughout the film. In terms of length, because of the trims, the Director's Cut is actually about a minute shorter than the original version."

Sir Scott prefers the theatrical cut rather than his "own cut" because it only matters in few minutes.

Anyway the price tag is really a steal! I was tempted to buy the box set yesterday but I'm still looking for the feedback here in pinoydvd.

Baka tomorrow I'll get the box set at Astro in Sm North Edsa, Gloria the sales personnel kept on bragging me that it is only limited release.  :)

Finally bought my copy yesterday at Astrovision Centerpoint. They only had 2 sets available.  :D

When I opened the box to inspect the discs, the sales people swarmed around me and were very impressed with the packaging and contents.  ::)

Later while I was browsing through the other dvds on sale, I overheard one of the staff calling another branch to pull out their stock. Hehehe.  ;D

Noticed something that was in the R1 that is lacking in the R3.  The Alien3 and Alien Resurrection features (theatrical/assembly/extended cuts) don't seem to be THX certified.   Also, THX Optimizers are not included for these films.

I guess I don't mind these omissions, given the price.  Your mileage may vary.

Gloria my favorite sales personnel at Astro in Sm North Edsa reserved me a copy although I have second thoughts buying the box-set.  :)

Finally bought it kanina lunch break...only 1 copy left but it was already reserved for a certain doctor...maybe he or she is also a pinoydvd member.

Will open the box-set as soon as I get home...baka mahiram pa ng mga office mates ko... ;D
