7 new titles to my collection!

Thanks to Alrainer for Stormy Weather and Cabin in the Sky and to oggsmoggs for The Astaire and Rogers Collection, Vol. 1

Sormy Weather is a very nice package. I recomend it! Great artwork, amaray case, insert about movie, insert advertising some african american movies and the biggest surprise of all, really nice lobby cards. Lena Horne is wonderful.

I love musicals...unfortunately - mine are mostly on VCDS.  I would probably get the better ones on DVDs but a few at a time.

DVD:
The Sound of Music (40th Anniversary Ed)
The Wizard of Oz
My Fair Lady
Philadelphia Story

The rest are all in VCDs.
Mary Poppins, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific, Singing in the rain, etc., etc., etc.  Maybe 15-20 titles, but not worth a single or two of those Limited Edition DVD.

Wish the local distributor would import them though, while online purchases is pretty painless Especially with all those good souls at PinoyDVD marketplace), it still easier to accumulate a collection via walk-in impulse purchases... with online orders, you fret about your budget, etc.  But with walk-in,  you just spend on a title or two (if you happen to have the cash), and before you know it, you got a sizeable collection... :)

Cool bro, hope you get a cool and big collection one day. Are  you sure Philidelphia Story is a musical? Or are you talking about Cole Porter's High Society?

Are  you sure Philidelphia Story is a musical?
Oops.  It's a romantic comedy, not a musical.  I happen to file it together with my other musicals. It also happens to be among my sealed and unviewed DVDs... :)

I will probably change all those VCDs with DVDs, as long as they become available (locally), and as long as budget allows...  Did add some this week from my trek to Ortigas yesterday...

I believe High School Musical will replay sometime mid-August (19 maybe). I've listened to the soundtrack. It really sounds like a second-rate rip-off of Grease. Leagues below the likes of Sondheim, Kander & Ebb, Rodgers & Hammerstein and even Menken & Ashman.

Klaus, it's not that bad. Try watching it.  ;D

Riverfan, yup, I saw it, and my sister cannot get enough of it, she's borrowed the dvd multiple times from friends and family members and I guess I'll just have to buy her one...  :)

After listening to Sondheim and watching musicals by Vincente Minnelli and Bob Fosse, everything else feels second rate.

This is a great montage from different movies, mostly from musicals:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs2luUkPxC0

The challenge is to name each film in the clip in sequence. :D I recognized most of them but couldn't do it in sequence.
Absolutely no regrets!
