It won technical awards but lost the Best Pic to Gandhi.

ET was nominated for 9 Oscars including Picture and Director. It won for Original Score, Sound, Sound FX Editing, & Visual FX.

Modesty aside, i have ALL (except for a few) these academy award winning best pictures on DVDs, i had been collecting them since i started the hobby in 1999. Only the ff. titles are not in my collection so far, and the reasons for not having them, viz:

1. Wings (1928) - not yet released on dvd
2. The Broadway Melody (1929) - not yet released on dvd
3. Cimarron (1931) - not yet released on dvd
4. Grand Hotel (1932) - already ordered w/ sir darius of warners but not yet recieved
5. Cavalcade (1933) - not yet released on dvd
6. Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) - same as Grand Hotel
7. The Great Ziegfeld (1936) - same as Grand Hotel
8. The Life of Emile Zola - not yet released on dvd
9. Mrs. Miniver (1942) - same as Grand Hotel
10. The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) - soon to be released on 4/06/04
11. Around the World in 80 Days (1956) - not yet released on dvd
12. Chicago (2002) - just waiting for the Special Ed.
