You know you've too many DVDs when...
« on: Jul 06, 2001 at 04:54 AM »
Though this'd be an interesting post. Anyway, here are mine:

You know you've too many DVDs when...

...You start using your Brazil: Criterion Collection DVD as a coaster.

...Greenpeace brands your residence as a heavy metal hazard.

... sold all your worldly posessions to buy more dvds and a portable dvd player,

... you now live on the streets with your new dvd acquisitions.

...somebody hands you a CD (any CD) and you automatically flip it over to see what region it is.

...you get disappointed watching cable TV because you can't switch on the subtitles or watch it in Cantonese, just for kicks.

...your living room's acoustics were designed by the same guys who did Carnegie Hall.

...you get upset with your waiter because your meal has no "extra features."

...you hold off buying a new car because, even though it hasn't yet been officially announced, you're convinced that the manufacturer will release a "special edition" within the next couple of years.

...when doing your taxes, in answer to the question, "Number of children," you answer, "552, with seven pre-ordered."

...you refuse to date anyone who thinks VHS is still hip.

...you bitch about the fact that you can't order your house from Amazon, the bank doesn't take "$10 off $80,000" coupons on your mortgage, and the free shipping promo doesn't apply.

And the number one sign that you've too many DVDs is...

...you're legally married to a flat black progressive-scan console named "Pioneer."

;)

Not lately, but I used to be fan of Dave's, back when he had real hair. ;)

By the way, this is officially my final post from the Philippines.  I have to leave for the airport in exactly 38 minutes.  Next time I log on, it will be from NJ.  I may be offline for about a week, until I can scrounge myself a new 'puter in the states.  'Til then, be good everyone!  ;)

Glad we got to see you before you left, gonz! Best of luck, and some self-restraint when stepping into Best Buy or Circuit City, okay? ;)

Till you're back online at PinoyDVD again, we'll be anxiously waiting! :D

hehehe

Well, I know now that I don't have that many DVDs because I feel like searching every nook and cranny(?) of gonz's house with a metal detector.

You know you've too many DVDS when...

...you arrive in the US with limited funds, no job (yet) and no DVD player...

...and the first thing you do is buy a couple of DVDs at Best Buy and another at Costco!

Hi everyone, I'm back online, after a fashion.  I don't yet have a computer, but I can use my sister-in-law's laptop while she's not away on business trips (when, of course, she brings her laptop with her).  Meanwhile, I've passed the word to some NY connections to hook me up with a new 'puter from the back of a truck.  ;)

And a DVD player, too, while they're at it.  ;)

This is officially my first post from NJ, and I would like to thank you guys for the nice well-wishing.

benny - the trip was half bumpy and half boring.  The most interesting moment came just before touchdown at Newark airport, where our plane's left wheels touched ground, then the right wheels followed, then the left wheels lifted off the ground, then finally settled back down again.  Woo-hoo!

And this is a loooooong effing flight.  It's like falling off a 200-storey building: "AAAAAH! (Gasp)  AAAAH! (Gasp) AAAAAAAH! (Gasp) AAAAAAAH! THUD!"

Multi - Tell Sony that Sandra and I send our regards. ;)

Oh, and you don't need a metal detector to find DVDs at my house in Manila.  I left them behind.  All of them.  There was just no room in my suitcases.  So my wife will ship them to me via slow boat in the next few days.  Now before you even think of showing up at her door dressed up as a VRB inspector, "just checking the video entertainment media on-site, ma'am," I warn you: she is authorized to use deadly force to protect my DVDs.  ;)

DVDgurl - as you can tell from the intro, I followed your advice not at all.  See the "Latest DVD Purchases" thread for more details. ;)

And you may get some perverse gratification to learn that my sis's laptop is a Toshiba PeeCee, so I am forced to do Windows (yech) while I wait for my new Mac to fall from the back of a truck somewhere in Hackensack.

bently - let's talk.  ;)

Nice to be back. ;)

This is no joke. I realized I've been seeing TOO much DVDs when I was watching a movie the other day, I reached out to my DVD remote to pause it so I can go pee. I got pissed because my remote seems to have broke, only to realize that I had been watching HBO.  :-/

gonz - Hey you're back!  ;D  I don't believe it! in just a few hours, you've bought dvds already! Have you even unpacked ? (LOL, I would do the same thing, drop everything and run to BJ's...) You have to ask for bently's advice how to curb this addiction when walking into Circuit City, Best Buy, etc...lucky for me, I only have to contend with Astrovision over here.  ;)

Before we hijack this thread, how about starting a gonz's "Apple pie, Patis, dvds, abtp.." thread?  It would be really interesting if you could give us any updates. Well, if you have the time ...

Welcome back!

When you've also included the beneficiaries of your dvd's in your "last will and testament"

In my case I’m thinking of donating all of my dvd’s to my high school alma matter so everybody can enjoy my dvd’s at Bently’s DVD Library Wing!

what i mean by selling all your worldly posessions to buy more dvds and a portable dvd player,  is you sold EVERYTHNG,
your dog "spot", your house, your bed, your car, your clothes, your shoes, your everything. and the only posession you have left is your dvds and a portable dvd player hat you watch on the streets, kinda like a homeless guy, but with a dvd player and has the whole criterion collection at his disposal. :)

Pwede ata as long as what you ask for in exchange is something grabe na like your own Louie's Cinema with Lazyboy seats (top of the lines) and the most complete selection of titles you like - para naman hindi cheap ang dating ng soul mo.

MY TOP 10

10.  You await for the WARNING and MENU screens when watching movies on TV/cable or in cinemas. ::)

9.  You cry everytime the peso devaluates. But it never stops you from buying DVDs. :'(

8.  Everyone in your house is familiar with DVD terms even if they are not DVD addicts.  They are very conversive already with these terms.  Even the maid knows. ;)

7.  You search for Play Movie, Scene Selection, Special Features, and Setup in your celfone menu. ???

6.  You experience withdrawal symptoms when you haven't watched a DVD for some time, especially if your unit is under repair. >:(

5.  Everyone you know is in your Amazon wishlist address book as well as in your Share The Love address book. :D

4.  You take leaves to watch DVDs the whole day (new arrivals or newly rented). Your idea of a rest day is watching DVDs the whole day. ;D

3.  You feel you found a soulmate when someone of the opposite sex (or whatever your sexual preferences may be) is introduced to you and you discover that the person is a DVD addict too(not a member of PinoyDVD yet). :-*

2.  Your organizer, Palm Pilot, PC Scheduler, etc. contains the following: :o
a. Release dates of DVDs and price
b. Arrival dates of ordered DVDs
c. Schedule of watching of DVDs
d. Date of return of rented/borrowed DVDs
e. List of DVDs to buy
f. Payment dates with amount for credit cards
g. Inventory of DVDs based on a personal category and a tracking system for those borrowed
h. List of coupons used (crossed out) and those you can still use specifying the amount of savings and minimum purchase and expiration dates
i. Email, addresses, and contact nos. of people in the DVD trade.
j. List of easter eggs per DVD title

1.  No need for an organizer, Palm Pilot, PC Scheduler, etc.  You've memorized all items in No. 2 by heart. 8)

So far I've only reached Top 10 & 9.  It was fun though thinking of Top 8 down to 1.

You inspired me with your Top list.  Thanks nga pala for that list.  It really made me laugh when I needed it after a very stressful day. :)

Baka naman business niya iyon.  Wise siya kung net income at hindi net gastos in the end.

Kung personal collection niya lahat or at least most of it eh malala na iyon.
