What receivers are available locally, which has the ability to upscale all of its video inputs (analog or digital) to a common output format (e.g. component or HDMI)?

To put things simply, is there a receiver I can buy which can do all the video switching, so I only maintain 1 single connection from receiver to TV?  So if I have the following inputs:
  • DVD player with component out
  • VCD player with s-video out
  • VHS player with composite out
  • Cable box with composite out

That I could plug these all into the receiver, and only have a single component connection to a flat panel or projector?  I need a receiver that could upscale the s-video and composite inputs to output via component video... (or possibly HDMI even?)

No ultra high-end gears please.  Entry to mid-range receivers only.  Thanks.

try these denons:

2105 - http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/451.asp
2805 - http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/376.asp
3805 - http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/356.asp

above three can upconvert your video to component.  just click the links to see their specs.

3806 - http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/623.asp  this baby will convert your video from analog to digital (HDMI).  if my 2802 dies on me...i'll probably get this one :)

Thanks Dude...  The 3806 is really sweet.  It can do a simply pass-through, which does a direct conversion from analog-digital.  Too pricey though, and might be too much for my needs now.  It might be 2015 before I own my first HDMI-enabled device...   :-[

I just checked both Denon USA site, and the Denon HK site.  The US model has the video up conversion from composite -> S-Video -> component.  The Asian model does not up convert the video signal!   >:(  Bad trip!!!

In the US model manual, the video up conversion feature is explained in detail on page 10 (of 82).

In the Asian model manual, the video non-conversion is explicitly explained in page 7 (of 129).

Racial Discrimination!!!   >:(

I just got the below reply from DENON Asia...

Dear Mr. xxxxxxx,

Thanks for your inquiry .

There are 2 diferences in the features of AVR-2105 sold to USA , Europe and Asia .
USA model :
1) allow video conversion to component
2) video section bandwith to 100MHz

Europe and Asia model :
1) Not allow video conversion to component
2) video section bandwith to 30MHz

The differneces is due to the market demend and sells cost .

Best regards

DENON

I ended up buying the Yamaha RX-V657.  It has the component video up conversion feature.  RX-V750 sana eh, pero ubos na...   :'(

I know that brands should tailor fit their wares to market demands.  But sometimes I wonder if this smacks of racial discrimination.   How come Americans would want video upconversion in a receiver and not expect this from Asians is just beyond me.

Upconversion would help Game consoles too, right? I mean S-video to Component would really be a boost!
