DirectX 9.0c
« on: Dec 01, 2005 at 10:35 AM »
Need your expert advise guys  :-\

I recently purchased a desktop pc with the following specs:

Processor: Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz
Motherboard:  Foxconn 661FX LGA (integrated - video SiS 661FX Rev 01 w/ shared 128mb memory)
Memory:  512mb DDR pc333
CD Drive: LITE-ON DVD ROM/CD Writer
HDD: 40gb Seagate

The current diver for the motherboard intaller is directX 9.0b, I've been trying to update it to directX9.0c for two weeks already, so far i've been unsuccessful.  I've tried using the generic installers from ATI, Inno3D, the ones from my office pc.  I even tried using actual installers from the games itself.   :P

please help me update it.

TIA

Thanks, but i'm currently running on win_xp sp2.  would it be possible that the sp2 installer is defective?

would it be possible also that the integrated video does not support directx 9.0c?

start->run->"dxdiag"

what version of dx is installed?

sir Dowals, after googling around, i think your chipset, "mirage" is not a dx9 part.  :(  but you can still install dx9.0c

what exactly do u mean when u say you "can't install it"??

does it show an error message?

i tried running a distribution installer of directx9.0c (downloaded from microsoft.com) on an sp2 installed machine... and it "seemed" like it didn't install kasi it "finished" before it even started. the mobo was also foxconn (winfast) and the driver disc that came with it also had directx9.0b. (if you try to install that over sp2... it won't install either.) but if you run "dxdiag"... 9.0c na pala ang naka-install. check it first... baka without you realizing it... 9.0c ka na pala all this time. ;D

That's the same thing happened to me sir, except the upgrading to 9.0b to 9.0c.  I have reformatted it (the pc)last night hoping that if i install the directX 9.0c (not the installer of 9.0b that was included) it will be upgraded na.  It's been a frustrating past two weekends for me already  :'(

No offense ha, but is it genuine (not pirated)? According to microsoft.com, the OS needs to be so.

i don't think genuine or not is the issue here... the fact he was able to install sp2 means the CD-key is at least legit or not yet blacklisted.

i just checked the directx website and there aren't really any harware requirements listed... as long as you run win98 or higher, pwede dapat.

this is very strange....

just wondering... why do u need to manually install directx9.0c pa? i think simply installing SP2 will install it automatically. i guess the next question is... are you installing from an winxp SP2 installer or from a regular winxp installer then manually installing the service packs?

Yes, I agree. But I recall reading about how to make OS installers w/ SP's already in them. i just hope the key starts w/ "FCKGW" ;D Pedeng gawaan ng paraan yan.

uh... not to sound weird here. but if the key was invalid he would get a nag screen di ba?

just curious...  after a fresh install of winxp sp2 (without installing the video card drivers muna) do the "run >dxdiag" test... check what directx version is installed. it should say that it's 9.0c... if not, well... may problema nga installer mo.

if windows XP correctly identifies your video card... don't install the one on the CD anymore. chances are the drivers in SP2 are newer than the ones in your driver disk.

if you REALLY need the extras that come with the video card vendor's drivers... get the latest ones from the vendor... in your case, it should be here:
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/productsOverview_motherboard.cfm?pSocket=&pChipset=

BTW... i was checking the 661FX chipset boards and they all say they can only share up to 64MB of memory.

The installer may be the culprit especially if it is not genuine. There are WinXP SP2 versions out there that have a few tampered files that will prevent you from making certain changes to the OS.

Thanks for the replies guys, i'm planning to buy a dedicated video card january next year. hopefully this might solve my problem.  but for the meantime, i'm really trying my best to solve my directX problem

after installing winxp, it will tell you that a newer version of directX is already installed should you try to load the 9.0b di ba?

no... it doesn't do that. when i tried to install 9.0b onto a freshly installed winxp sp2 machine (that had 9.0c in it)... it looked like it installed but immediately after clicking "next" nasa "finish" screen ka na. the progress screen didn't even show.  ;D

you won't get a warning screen... :-\

I upgraded my graphics card last night, purchased a PowerColor 9250 128MB/128bit, weird thing was after installing the drivers, dxdiag showed directX9.0b, good thing a directX9.0c based game played flawlessly,  SRS (street racing syndicate) to be exact.

Actually, Street Racing Syndicate is not really a DX9.0c game.  Your dxdiag is still showing directX9.0b because your videocard is only a directX9.0b-based card and does not really support true directX9.0c.  Try playing a real directX9.0c-based game like Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and you'll see what I mean.
