« on: Dec 23, 2005 at 02:54 PM »
Guys plan to setup for HT pero bitin pa pera ko. Gusto ko muna sana unahin 1 pr speaker and a receiver.
Bigyan nyo naman ako magandang combination ng Sound system na di ko pagsisisihan. Ganito gusto ko magyari sa budget ko 75%-AVR, 25%-Speaker.

Thanks.

catgreg2k2,

Here's a good starting point for music/HT:

For receiver: Onkyo TX-SR 701 or 702(newer model):   Price 37,000
This one is a THX-select certified receiver; DVD-A/SACD ready with 5.1 analog inputs and preouts,
7.1 channel capable; 192khz/24 bit DAC's; lots of reserve power should you decide to upgrade to larger
floorstanding speakers in the future; also has 'pure audio' or 'direct' mode.  Excellent for both
music listening and movies.

For speakers: B&W DM600 s3: Price 15,000
Nice starting point to give you a 'feel' and 'taste' of what high quality, high fidelity sound is all about.
These are small bookshelf speakers that sound just as good as floorstanders costing several times
as much.  Limited bass response though, but will serve well with music.  When you upgrade,
you should make these speakers your surround speakers and buy B&W floorstanders (for front),
center speaker, and a Velodyne subwoofer (CHT/CHT-R series).  These speakers will give you serious,
audiophile quality sound for both movies and music listening.

Here's the price breakdown summary:
Receiver - Onkyo TX SR 701/702:    P37,000 (71% of total cost)
Speakers - B&W DM600 s3:            P15,000 (29% of total cost)
                 =======================
                        Grand Total:        P52,000

Actually, these are retail prices so you can negotiate for lower prices
to avoid exceeding your P50,000 budget.

if the plan is a home theater, you might like to add a sub, i think it's essential for HT.

if u don't mind used items, these are for sale in the buy&sell section:

receiver: HK 5500 - 23k
subwoofer: MS 907w - 7.5k

this leaves 19,500 for the speakers..... you can get these from the buy&sell section too:

- a used B4 for 17k, leaving 1,500 for digital cable
- a used MS904 for 9k, leaving 10,500 for a center/rear speaker and cable
- a bnew speaker that costs <20k (lots of choices)

With the HK5500 + MS sub you'll got a very good AVR/SUB combo add Wharf Diamond 9 series speaker and you'll already have kick ass setup for HT and Audio. :) :) :)

@kevlar
Thanks sa suggestion mo. I really appreciate that. But with price medyo yata mataas sa budget, not to metion pa yun gastos sa cables and other accessories needed on setting up. I read some reviews on TX-SR702 maganda feedback nila but when i browse their website I saw TX-SR703 sa tingin mo mga magkano kaya ito. Gusto porma nito considering na THX Certified na.

@All

d pa ata lumalabas 703 dito. anyway the only difference seems to be xm radio capability and you wont find much use for that feature here in our country :P i own 702's and am very happy w/ it. it drives my dm604's w/ plenty of power to spare ;D

Dunno if the TX SR 703 is already available here.  I actually have the older TX SR 701
and the price I quoted (37k) is for this older model.

Actually, the original model was TX SR 700 and it is already THX-select certified.
Then Onkyo released a 'newer' version: the TX SR 701 which is basically the same
but with some minor refinements and additional DSP features (also THX-select certified).

Again, Onkyo made some more revisions  and came up with the TX SR 702.
Now there's the TX SR 703.   They are essentially the same in terms of basic
functions and power capability so you should not worry about each of these
model's capacity to deliver good sound.

If you want the 'newest' model however, you'll have to wait some more before
it arrives here.  By the time the Onkyo TX SR 703 model arrives here, they already
probably have the TX SR 704 model abroad.

if i were u i would invest more on the speakers. imho speakers will serve you longer than receivers. i recommend the b&w dm602 (P25k) + P25K receiver

here's a review of the 602 s3
http://www.audioreview.com/PRD_130193_4290crx.aspx

i was blown away when i heard these speakers at the b&w showroom in greenhills. u can also audition them at the b&w/sights & sounds showroom in shangrila mall. the owner there was very helpful when i was choosing a receiver. he even offered me to audition the receivers at home free of charge
