I do prefer watching dvds with subtitles on. How I wished I could even understand Chinese subtitles. Sometimes I even turn the closed captions sa TV to have the feel of watching with subtitles(mabagal nga lang).

having subtitles on during a preview of "Master n Commander" is a MUST! ;D kinakain nila mga words habang nagsasalita. >:(

FOr me I hate having subtitles on dahil instead na concentrate ka sa movie itself, naging pagbasa ang priority mo. ;D

Personally, I prefer watching foreign (non-english) movies in their original audio with english subtitle and english movies with subtitle off.  But I find the subtitle feature very useful when the dialog seems muddled. My kids, though, always watch with english subs on. I think it helps them practice reading and spelling.  :)

ako din, i prefer watching DVDs with the english subtitles on. it helps a lot with my comprehension of the film, most especially for movies, whose stars eat their words while giving their dialogues...e.g. Sylvester Stallone and some british actors :) :)

Ako I prefer watching with the english subtitles ON kasi sometimes I cannot seem to understand what they are saying.

For concert dvds naman, always with subtitles please ... para pwede din kumanta  ;D

Ako rin I watch with the subtitles on most of the time, para I don't miss anything. Weird, dami palang ganun din  ;D Like JhunDV, I also watch foreign language movies in their original audio, even if an English track is available, so subtitles in that case is a must of course.. and then there's the pikey talk on Snatch..  ;)

It's undisputed.. concert queen ka talaga diver! LOL  ;D

Recently, I  always turn-on the subtitles. Kasi my brother in law always ask me to turn it on every he watches with me. Nasanay na tuloy ako. Made it easy to understand what they are saying. wala na yung "ano daw?"  ;D

For me subtitles are "off" if I'm watching the movie for the first time para maka concentrate sa movie.  Second time around naka on na if hindi ko masyado naintindihan but seldom lang, very big chance if its a brit film.   ;)

like the majority, have made it a habit to turn the subtitle ON... mas na-a-appreciate ko yung takbo ng story...

medyo OT pero i guess most of us here has their own experiences with pdvd subtitles... yung mga drama nagiging comedy... if you know what i mean.  ;D

I can do without the subtitles, but they ARE handy for mumbled dialogue. And when my daughter wanted to learn the lyrics to all the "Labyrinth" songs.  ;D

For me parating naka-off yung subtitles kc gus2 ko nakafocus tlga dun sa movie. Pag naka-on kc I can't help reading it eh :) Medyo nawawala 2loy yung attention ko sa ibang details ng movie. I only turn it on pag may nde ako maintindihan sa dialogue.

it actually depends on the movie. There are some movies that I have a little difficulty understanding the dialog, so I turn on the subtitles. Or when I watch a DVD for the second time, subtitles already turned off  ;D.

And, sometimes.. I find the closed captions more fun, as they are not always placed at the bottom of the screen.  ;)

I always watch DVDs with subtitles ON (exceptions are those DVDs that have horrendous English subs). It saves me the effort of having to rewind a scene if I don't understand the dialogue. When watching late at night, I sometimes have to turn the volume down, so, I rely heavily on subs.

No subs for me, except for foreign languages other than English. I easily get distracted by subs but I prefer watching Chinese movies or Passion of the Christ with subs rather than have them dubbed. I like watching these types of movies in their original form. :)

it's on the first time i watch it, lalu na kapag medyo malalim ang movie and i happened to see it in a crappy theatre that had a lousy sound system.  let's face it, di naman lahat ng actors sa movie e malinaw magsalita o minsan masyadong inaudible yung sinabi nila tapos maingay pa katabi mo, patay ka na.  once ive seen it with the subs on, ala na the second viewings.  it's too distracting kasi.

I watch with the SUBTITLES ON most of the time.

For the MOVIE, RATCATCHER although in English, heavy Scottish accent with coloquial terms, the subtitles are required because it also translates the locally used terms.

Yup on the first time I have watched that movie.  But from the 2nd or so reruns no subs for me.  Exceptions are movies like Trainspotting where the English accent is really  ???  what'd he say?
