i never loved TUBES, much as i never loved SS amps either, i build them, use them and sometimes i get lucky i sold them.

To me LOVE is a term you use on people, you love your wife, kids, family and friends, amps, we use them.

It is indeed sad if we used people instead and loved tubes......

biggest reason = i heard them and i liked it

before that, the biggest reason i haven't gone into tubes was i didn't know how it sounded, so i considered it risky to spend that much for so few watts.... but now that i heard some that were "done right", i'm posting here instead of the other thread.

I used to be a solid state die hard. HEADBANGER ako. I have this negative thing against tube amps based on what I READ although I never heard one. 

Then I got an AMX EL84 tube amp. Rock music became pleasant to my ears.

Now I prefer to listen to tube amps.

the el84 integrated costs 12,500 the last time i checked, right now they only have the integrated el34 amp for 17,500.

Like most, i love tubes for their warmth.

Tubes to me, stands for a romance with music.

You know that your manually wound watch will never be as accurate as your digital
plastic one.

But this romance is best set against the manual movement of a finely crafted timepiece
than in the clinical precision of quartz.

The way this romance is best felt in the midst of these sultry "fire bottles" than the
dark corners where capacitors lie.

... all topologies use capacitors.  One just needs to understand what their disadvantages are for a given application.  With correct usage, capacitors are in fact a gem.    We need capacitors, just like we need transistors, FETs and vacuum tubes. I myself don't love tubes much as I don't love any electrical component. Like what Sir 2ny said, I just use them to the best of their abilities.

Electrical components designed and layed out properly beats the hell out of the vacuum tubes vs SS argumentation.

the best capacitor is "no capacitor" in a signal path, a good designer will try to avoid them whenever he can, or at least keep them to a minimum.

Can't avoid if unless you want to couple dc to output. Need very tight tolerances and tight pcb trace loop areas. Not good if you have lots of parts. Performance vs cost penalty (also include development time).

If you have caps too low signals can bypass this specially if you have several components connected to this. Need to put cap footprint on PCB trace edges to ensure max filtering.

If you have caps too high you will have discharge problems.
