Re: samsung lcd or sharp lcd?
« Reply #120 on: Oct 16, 2006 at 11:11 AM »
Sharp is the market leader in LCD production, acting as OEMs for many brands, not only TVs, but laptops, computers and cellphones and any gadget using LCD displays.   Samsung also OEMs for many brands, including SONY's Bravia,  but relatively newer to the business.   And are said to be cheaper, being Korean-sourced.  So with all things equal, it's possible the Samsung brand can deliver more value in terms of price/performance.

whoa have narrowed down my search for my startup HT and the finalists are these two.

samsung la32r71b and sony 32s200a

my questions are: which among them...
a. better in terms of broadcast/dvd video
b. sound quality
c. future proofing (can handle future technologies)
d. overall value for the buck.

thanks in advance.

I would only speak for the sony 32s200a because that's what I bought over the samsung la32r71b. For me, cable TV reception was better than expected. Of course it is nowhere near DVD quality but it's better than the Sony Wega 25" TV that it replaced. It seems the bravia engine helps in cleaning away the TV reception noise specially for scenes where there is not much motion.

As to DVD playback, I think it's as good as the Samsung.

b. sound quality

Consider the LCDTV's built-in speakers as insignificant, as if they put it there as an afterthought. However, the Sony's tuner has stereo decoding. I heard the Samsung's tuner is mono.

I got the DAV-DZ520K with the LCD and I would say it's worth choosing the Sony over the Samsung because of this HT system.

c. future proofing (can handle future technologies)

Both have HDMI. The Sony has really no PIP like Samsung's because you can only combine a moving picture inside a frozen captured picture.

The Sony HT system can play DIVX avi files up to 720 x 576 resolution. This even beats the Pioneer Divx players which can't play these files. However, the Sony DAV-DZ520K can't handle XVID files normally download via BitTorrent. I fixed it by using abcAVI Tag editor to patch the fourCC code to DIVX before burning them to CDs.

d. overall value for the buck.

Because of Sony's promo, you can get discount vouchers for buying other Sony's products like the home theater and a digicam. You get the most if you are paying in cash. If paying cash, the over-all value for the buck is better than Samsung's.

I agree.  ;D. As I also chose a Sony LCD over the Samsung.
The Bravia is good at SD Sources based on the "internet" research I have done
and actual audition from the stores.

But you can have the final answer.
I suggest you audition between your two choices and bring your own gears
to the store and connect it to your choice of LCD.

I myself brought my own DVD Player and my PS2 sa Ansons Park Square to test with the Bravia and Samsung. The Bravia seems better in handling the PS2 Graphics based on my audition.

Additional advice pa.
If you can still find a 32-inch V Series Bravia, yon ang kunin mo.
The V Series has more features and better PQ than the Sony S200A Series.

The 32 V has been marked down and now being sold at 109k. Same price as the 32 S200.

Good luck sa paghahanap mo ng 32V. There is a review of this model at CNET.
May nakita pa akong 32V Sa Avant Abenson sa Greenbelt Walkway.

To those who have seen both display regular cable television programs and regular DVDs, which is better? And how is the best compared to a regular CRT?

Samsung LA32 S7 vs. LA26 R7 which one?
« Reply #126 on: Nov 30, 2006 at 09:39 AM »
-both has a contrast ratio of 3000:1
-the S7 is bigger but but r7 looks better
-price difference is 10k

do you think picture quality will be the same with the contrast ratio of 3,000:1 considering the size difference? or it won't matter? i'm willing to shell out 10k more to get the bigger size, but if the PQ is better with R7 I'll go with smaller one... I'll be using it more for HD Gaming, DVDs come in second. Thanks guys!

well, we've got the LA32S71B... I don't even set it to maximum contrast.... sobrang liwanag, nakaka-strain ng eyes....  8)

if LA32S71B is compared to LA26R71B,  definitely i'll choose the LA32S71B... they've got almost the same features anyway.... both has:
*6.4 Billion Color Expression
*3,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
