does your player read DVD+R discs?
« on: Jan 31, 2006 at 08:02 AM »
hi.

i was testing my Nextbase (first generation) and Skyworth DVD-3250 (yata) and both could not read DVD+R discs.

I tried the DVD+R discs on my computer with DVD-Rom drive, and it was able to read it.

Which made me recall that the Lexing DVD-099 I bought two days ago (but did not try it extensively when i got it home, and it was picked up yesterday by my auntie already) had a sticker on the front that said "DVD-R/DVD+R/PICTURE CD/PHOTO VIEWER" na markings.

I wonder tuloy if the Lexing DVD-099 could really read DVD+R discs....

...and does anyone here has a dvd player that has been tested to successfully read DVD+R discs?? Aong brand and model po?

Again it is DVD+R as in DVD PLUS R, not Minus (DVD-R) which is readable by both the Nextbase and Skyworth I own.

thanks!!

I have a an old nextbase (yun unang version pa), a skyworth 2650 and nextbase portable puro naman nababasa dvd+r.

pero naka set ang booktype niya as dvd-rom.  never tried it na booktype niya ay dvd+r, kasi automatic na sineset nang mga burners (Liteon and NEC) ko yun.

Pioneer 383 can read +R and +RW.   however, it's not documented.  the manual explicitly states support for
only -R and -RW.  but politics could be behind the omission of +R/RW support in fine print since Pioneer is a major supporter of DVD-R/RW standard.

ah, baka nga bitsetting problem lang 'no?
bestbuy, try mong i-bitset palagi and DVD+R mo to DVD-ROM when you burn it.
wala namang mawawala.  be sure your dvd writer can bitset though.

Sa media lang yan. Use better quality DVD+R/DVD+RW. Lower the burning speed, update the firmware of the DVD burner. Apply patch to the software. Etc.

hi,

im using Roxio's Easy CD Creator, and there is no bitsetting option to manipulate.

i tried using Nero, wala ring bitsetting option. but i prefer roxio's platform. simpler and easier to use for computer illiterates.

You can use Liteon's Booktype.exe to change the bitset of dvd+r to dvd-rom
Goto http://www.pc-magazin.de/datatip/common/dtt/download.php?areaid=66&fileid=3291 to download.

hi,

i uploaded the zip file for the booktype on liteon dvd-rw drive. OK naman na download ko ang program.

kaso, i tried it and it seems like wala rin nangyari.

1. opened the utility program.

2. inserted blank DVD+R into DVD-RW drive

3. inserted a DVD movie on my second DVD-Rom reader only drive.

4. changed option in utility window to record as DVD-R

5. opened Roxio Easy CD Creator software, clicked Disc Copy

6. Computer searched thru both drives and still, it acknowledged the DVD+R disc as a DVD+R, hindi pa naging DVD-R although DVD-R na ang choice ko sa booktype utility.

7. Started copying/burning process.

8. Nang matapos na 100% ang burning, biglang error ang message.

9. tried to watch the newly burnt DVD+R pero hindi rin mabasa BOTH ng aking Nextbase/Skyworth DVD Players as well as my computer's DVD drive where it was burnt.

Surrender na ako. Sayang itong 20 pieces blank DVD+R na nabili ko pala. *sigh* :-\

Hi bestbuy88, you said ...

hi,
...
4. changed option in utility window to record as DVD-R
...

I, nor the others, never said to change the bit setting to DVD-R but to DVD-Rom cause most players can read DVD-Rom's.

hi,

ooopss sorry for the confusion.

i was supposed to mean that i chose the option to make it into a DVD-ROM disc (and not DVD-R as i previously wrote).

i was just thinking: tama ba iyang ginagawa ko where both the Roxio EASY CD Creator and the Liteon Utility are both open?

i was also wondering why i CANNOT click/use the option called 'WRITE NOW!" as seen in the Liteon Utility software. Only the buttons CHANGE and QUERY plus the one above EXIT can be clicked. Is something wrong again?

sincerely confused,

The booktype utility works only w/ Liteon dvd writers. Is ur writer  a Liteon?

yes. my dvd-rw drive is Liteon. forgot the exact model though but yes, it was detected by booktype utility software and properly identified as a Liteon model po.
