Lav Diaz new oeuvre. Hold your breath, just the rough cut is 8 hours already! I'm still dying to see BATANG WEST SIDE, EBOLUSYON NG PAMILYANG PILIPINO made me suffer from nausea but patience is a virtue.

and here i am, hoping that these movies will be released on dvd.

his movies are the type that needs to be seen over and over
(because of the length and some can't watch it in one sitting)

Ei marco_van, check some of Diaz' films online like KRIMINAL NG BO. CONCEPCION and HUBAD SA ILALIM NG BUWAN.

No announcement yet for BATANG WEST SIDE dvd release.

thanks keating.

i really wanted to see barrio konsepsyon and batang west side.

i've seen hesus rebolusyonaryo and i heard that diaz and marc anthony
fernandez had a quarrel during the shoot. maybe that's the reason why
the movie feels awkward in some scenes but all in all, filipinos should make
more movies like this. i love lav diaz :) what a passionate, crazy artist.

He makes no compromise. And I think up to now, he was not paid for HESUS REBOLUSYONARYO.

as far as i know there's no chance of Batang Westside being released on dvd... the producer Tony Veloria refuses to do so. during a screening of the movie last year (i actually sat through all 5 hours!) Vincent Nebrida of Unico Entertainment told me that they wanted to option the film for a possible dvd release but Tony won't give in. it was difficult enough to include the movie in last year's Filipino Film Festival here in NY...

i heard that diaz and marc anthony

What i heard was that Mark Anthony felt jealous of Lav with whatshername, Donita Rose, and he kicked him. Lav fought back. Maybe the kid got hold of some drugs during the shoot; he was supposed to be in rehab at the time...

wow, that bad? the premise of the movie was very promising though. i love the opening scene when he killed his buddies.also, when hesus paid a visit to his artist friend and they danced around to a rock song. it looks corny but that's what me and my friends do sometimes when we paint. we look that stupid then :)

Lav Diaz is the pioneer of indie filmmaking. He don't care if the movie will be a dud at the box-office, or not.

Hesus killing his friend is based on something that happened to the Communist Party in the Philippines in the mid '80s, I believe.

Not unless you count him as one of the victims of those purges. I think it's something he knew about when it was happening.

Thanks for the info, Noel. Whenever I see Lav Diaz on premieres, I always thought that he was Butch Perez.

i think this one is turning into a lav diaz thread :)

anyway, have you guys read criticine's interview with lav diaz? it's about
7 pages long and page 3 is devoted to heremias. it's very interesting.
i just gotta say this: lav diaz makes me feel proud to be a filipino because
he wants changes to every stupid thing in the philippines and he is
doing something about it by making films about it and he is not willing to dumb i
t down into a melodrama... just brutal honesty and balls.

Yeah, LAV DIAZ wants to change Philippine Cinema for that matter. I think we should support him and stamina is needed for his future films.

8 hours? That's for the rough cut only!  :o

The rough cut of Heremias at Rotterdam was only three hours (didn't see it, unfortunately, too busy); someone thought it was half finished. Where is this 8 hour rough cut y'all are talking about?

only keating mentioned that.

but if you said they showed three hours of its footage and lav diaz said he's about
forty or fifty percent done then maybe we're looking at a film that's going to be
6-7 hours long. hopefully, he'll keep it to that length :)

here's a link with lav diaz talking about heremias

Naw, only heard that it was half done from someone, don't remember who. For all I know, it might be only ten percent done.

if that 3 hours is the 10 percent of the film, then i am speechless.

they better release his films on dvd. that's what his films are: dvd material :)
because they are damn long.

Hi guys... to the best of my knowledge Lav is finishing the first half of Heremias, which can be seen in two parts, in time for Fribourg International Film Festival, where it will premiere In Competition, before travelling to two Asian Festivals before May. This first half should run 9 hours, give or take 30 minutes. The second half is yet to be shot.

Thanks for reading the Criticine interview!

Texted RMN a while ago, its 9 hours and 29 mins. rough running time. I believe RMN got it from commentary, himself.

Ei commentary, keep up the good work, man! I need 2 lipovitan on the next film of Lav Diaz.

There better be someone sexy in this film...eighteen hours I can take, but not without seeing something erotic (a moment, a freaking minute's worth) to keep my, uh spirits up. Man's got his limits.

haha! that'll be the minute lav diaz went mainstream.

it'll be funny if that erotic minute is on the 17th hour.

One minute; never mind if it's the last one--one minute is all I ask. I love his films but he's such an unerotic, unsensual filmmaker.  Surprising, considering what I know about him--I think he's been holding back.

Yeah agree with you, Noel. He is sometimes unsensual filmmaker. I still have to see HUBAD SA ILALIM NG BUWAN the Extended Cut which Lav didn't shot, the extended sex scenes.

And ironically its only available in porn shops in N.Y.

Thanks for reminding me of Hubad; that was the only scene in all of Lav's oeuvre that I've yet seen (haven't seen Heremias yet) with any heat in it, the encounter between Elizabeth Oropesa and Julio Diaz.

So I think he's capable, he just hasn't done it.

No problem, Noel. The extended scenes in HUBAD was another marketing ploy by who else, but the Regal Matriarch. I'm not sold in that idea......its like marketing our films to foreign pedophiles.  ;D

It was shot without Lav's consent.

Looked at my post, huh. No I don't think it was the extended scenes that were hot, but this fumble between Oropesa and Diaz--which were not nude at all, but with clothes on. I"m pretty sure Diaz shot em, is why I'm sure Diaz can shoot sex (unlike some Filipino filmmakers I know).

The encounter between Oropesa & Diaz was not part of the extended scene. There's heat on it, even with  clothes on. I remember seeing it on video a few years back.
