The iscan vp30 is a very good scaler/deinterlacer especially with the abt102 daughtercard. Without this daughter card, it uses the older Sil 504 deinterlacer chip used in the older models like the Iscan ultra and Iscan hd, hd+. This chip is no match for the one used by gennum and hqv. With the daughter card , its a whole  new scenario. It passes all test provided byHQV's DVD benchmark(I think it can handle SD material only not HD). It is said that before the end of the year, DVDO will introduce new models that are superior to their current crop of models

Dont have the Blu ray player yet. will wait for a better brand. Samsung's player has a noise reduction issue on one of its chips and the result is a picture just a tad better than ordinary DVD's .They have aknowledge the problem and will have a firmware fix next month kuno.

Hi Alvin,

Congrats on your new speakers... Impressive.
First time I heard of the brand Elac. What made you buy this pair?
How do you describe the sound?

Thanks.

Louie

To all, thank you for the kind words.

Now for the nitty gritty:

The Elac Fs607 x-jet is one of the latest speakers from ELACs flagship 600 series. I will just list some of the important features of this speaker:

-VAn den hul wiring inside
-All components including nuts and bolts are made in house
-legendary German engineering with 80 years of Audio experience (parang BMW ang quality)
-Ribbon tweeter which extends to 50kHz. inside a flat piston midrange in a point source configuration(no time alignment problem with midrange and tweeter. Acts as a single unit for the critical 410 Hz. to 4000 Hz.
- Aluminum chassis with MDF and internal horizontal and vertical pushrods for cabinet stiffness.

The sound :
-Very musical, no hint of electronic sound heard
-Accurate and precise stereo image even if you move your head from side to side
-Large stereo soundstage, very deep layering of instruments.
-No midrange fatigue, male and female voices are very natural with no shrillness
- highs are silky especially with light Cymbal strikes.

Need I say more? ;D

Thanks, to all.

Incidentally, I have upgraded the firmware of my Toshiba Hd A1 HD dvd player to 2.0 and I can get Dolby TrueHD 5.1 from the HDMI output of the unit.

what do you use for your audio connection?  analog 5.1 output or spdif output?

audio is via hdmi, spdif via coax or optical cannot pass the wider audio bandwidth of true hd, even dd+ will be downconverted to 640k if you use spdif.

I believe you can use the analog 5.1 inputs of the receiver with full bandwidth. Its just that, It is very convenient to have just 1 cable doing everything with much higher bandwidth than the current coax/opt. cable.
