DVI-to-component adapter
« on: Apr 01, 2006 at 04:42 AM »
is it possible to use a DVI-to-component adapter to connect my hd-DVD player to my Samsung 32" Slimfit  and enjoy HD-DVD players functionality. Or it'll be the same PQ playing a dvd on a Standard progressive dvd player?
yan problema sa Samsung 32" wide.. wala hdmi/dvi input Cheesy

malaki ba difference nito ?

playing a standard DVD movie on a HD-DVD player to HDTV using HDMI input
V.S.
playing a standard DVD movie on a (standard) Progressive - DVD player to HDTV using Component  input

and one last na.. Cheesy   ano pinakamaganda na mid-level DVD player with the best PQ using Component cable and SQ using Digital (Optic) should i get?

thanks in advance!!!

Hi & welcome aboard to this great forum chiemonyo  :) Bro are you referring to a upscale/upconvert DVD player or actual high definition HDTV? I presume you meant the ealier.  To answer some of your questions:

1. All current DVDs player & TVs have the component connections so you don't need any adapter. You can connect direct from your player to the TV. Btw, I never seen a DVI-Component adapter & don't think such adapter is available.

2. Your WS 32" Samsung Slim Fit has component input so this should give you the best possible PQ.

3. Either using a componet progressive scan or HDMI connection from an upscale player to a 32" tv, it's very hard to notice any difference due to the small screen size (we had tried on a BIG projector screen & still find it hard to spot any improvement). Overall, PQ will still look the same unless you are actually playing a HD movie. Samsung is capable of displaying up to 1080i.

4. For a 32" tv, any average player with component progressive should do fine. Current HDMI cable is very expensive, averaging around 6k. It's really meaningless to use HDMI on a upscale player as the actual movie source isn't in HD.

I'm not sure if our local market sells such product. In case you're having a hard time, there's always Amazon US where you can order online..this will solve all your head-ache  :D

Hi actually this is not suppose to be possible, as your dvi output from the HD dvd player is digital , while the component input is an analog signal , so they are not compatible..

Opss ... Thanks for setting us right , yes they do exist , but they work only on pc video cards w/c have the analog signals also present on the dvi signal pins...

Mayroon pala ako noon for my Ati video card , but for chiemonyo's  HD- DVD player this adapter might not work , unless there is also analog output present on the dvi output pins of the player..

thanks for the input guy's.

pero after i purchase a monster component cable , pioneer DivX/DVD player and konting picture calibration
lang, at doon ko sya na-appreciate ng sobra.. goodbuy na to for 59K...

thanks guys.
