Yes, I will lend it out to my friends.  But once they scratch my dvds, I give them a warning.  If they do it again, I won't ever lend it to them again.  I'll make them watch it at my place if they want to watch it.

My answer is a big fat NO.
I only lend my VCDs to my friends (pero namimili pa rin ng papahiraman).
Actually, kahit relatives ko, ayokong pahiramin e.
DVDs are such delicate items na I feel is for personal use, para bang toothbrush.
If someone hates me for this attitude...I don't f*****g care.  :o

;D Well I for one don't want to lend my dvds to friends.  I don't even tell my brother that i have a little collection of DVDs already.  Kasi one time one of my brothers borrowed it, after returning it to me and i checked it, i found fingerprints in the discs. They cost a lot of money and i don't intend to just throw my money away by having my little collection dirtied and scratch!

that's how i feel about my little collection anyways!! ;D ;D ;D

I think it is good practice to take good care of borrowed discs.  I really don't think folks should get too attached to their discs and a few scratches here and there isn't worth the fuss or a fight.

If you don't trust the fu***r then don't lend him anything.

I really take care of my disc but if a friend wants to borrow, I will lend it. Friendship is more important than DVDs. Since DVDs are a collection and are expensive I just give them advise to take care of it the same as I do.

The trick is to gauge in which scenario will you be better off.  Not lending your DVDs and have the corresponding negative outlook on you, or lending them out and risk the possible damage to your friendship.

Kung saan ka masaya, suportahan ta ka.

Re: How to say no...
I have just unearthed this thread which was ongoing a few months ago.

With my experience, I have influenced a lot of my friends and family on the HT experience (syempre sa yabang ko) and now they have HTs of their own but the problem is...they want to borrow my DVDs.  They are all close to me and if   I won't lend my DVDs, you would hear..."Hmmmph...swapang!" >:( Biglang parang di kaibigan or relative. The reason that I don't want these discs to be scratched is for resale value.  Parang comics yan eh.  Pag-mint, you can sell it for a higher price.

How can I say no in a way na hindi nakakasakit?

Since I only watch the DVDs once, I tried buying those shrink wrap plastics and reseal the DVDs again with a plastic sealer. Mukhang brand new diba?  So...if they see the DVD na nakaplastic pa...di na nila hiramin kasi hiya lang nila na buksan ang brand new (kuno). ;D

hehe , onga naman turbospaceman!  ;D . ako naman , a friend always borrows from me , but in my mind, i don't want to lend out any of my DVDs. pero , i usually end up lending him some, and ang ginagawa ko nalang (pampalubag loob) is borrow some of his DVDs in return parang "collateral" na rin, hehe  ;D .

kaya nga friends diba?

this is where my pirated dvds become handy.  what i do is
lend them the pirated ones first (para namang walang samaan ng loob) and give them tips on proper handling.  If they pass the test, then they could borrow the originals.  Otherwise, hanggang pirated material lang sila.  Kaya at times, ok din to have some pirated dvds because they're there for a purpose.  ;D

My policy: no borrowing allowed. Just come to my house and watch plus free merienda, dinner, lunch, breakfast and drinks... baka may kasamang massage pa! That way ay walang away.. kapag nasira ay walang sisihan.. pero kung pinahiram ay pati friendship ay nasisisra kapag nawala, nagasgas, nakalimutan, etc etc etc!

For me it depends, if a friend is a DVD collector himself and  take good care of his/her DVDs then I will reconsider to lend it. If he/she is a PINOYDVD member, of course mas malaking chances na papahiram ko basta in good standing sya at maganda ang feedback sa kanya ng ibang members ;D

But I doubt may hihiram sa akin na PinoyDVD member coz I know mas kumpleto ang collection nila compared sa akin ;D  ;D

Don't lend your kiddie DVDs to friends who have kids. I lent my Willy Wonka to a co-worker friend who has three kids and they can't seem to get over it. Makes me wonder it it's really the kids and not the nostalgic parents.  ;)

Same thing happened to a friend. She's a big fan of Disney's How The Emperor Got His Groove Back and was always talking about it to anyone who'd listen. Well, her boss listened and borrowed. She was only too glad to lend out. Then the boss' little boy watched it - and hindi na mapakawalan. Now the boss keeps promising my friend he'll return the disc as soon as he buys or orders his kid's own copy. Problem is, the boss is always busy and has no time to shop. So much for my friend's generosity...or is it over-enthusiasm?

I would be quite hesitant to lend out my DVDs, even to friends, unless their track record as borrowers is good.  There have instances before that my VCDs which I lent out to some friends come back late or is not returned at all.  A lot of times, these are lent out to other people without my knowledge.

refgar,
Kung magpapahiram ka ng DVD or VCD you have to attach some guidelines.  Gaya ng: Don't lend to others what I lend you. or be extra careful to avoid scratches at most of all ma-i-iwas sa maga maiinit na lugar gaya ng kotse at hot motors.

So I do not lend DVDs to my friends.

But I do give, If ever the one I bought is not my taste

But of course, I don't lend out yung hindi sa akin na hiniram ko rin lang. :)
