n00b question: What's special about R1 DVDs?
« on: Apr 19, 2006 at 10:36 PM »
Question lang. I just noticed that a lot of people prefer R1 over R3 DVDs. What's the difference?
Better copy? More features?

Just wondering. THanks

Better packaging
More features (not all)
with stuff (figures,  books, cd's)
And better packaging

R2 Japan however have the best packaging and the best Picture and Sound quality.  That's just me

R2 Uk have better packaging also

R3 Korean have unique packaging also

Some Hong Kong releases have better packaging also. :)

it's really a question of preference...if you really like the movie, I suggest you get the R1 version. You always get your money's worth. ;) but that's just me speaking out... ;)

first and foremost is the packaging.  iba ang dating ng r1.  although there are some r3 releases that are better than their r1 counterparts, mas marami  pa rin ang better looking r1 releases.  case in point, look at the bttf trilogy.  the r1 version comes with a holofoil slipcase unlike the r3 release na ang pangit ng  dating although it has a dts track unlike its r1 counterpart.  the king kong release also comes to mind.

to sum it up, some r1 dvds (or r2 for that matter) are classier looking than some of it's r3 counterparts.(unless it's a warner release.  just look at c interactive dvds and you're better off...)

If report is true...all of us will be sharing Region 1 in regard to HD movies but not sure if it's applicable to either HD DVD or BD only or both... :D

Lets hope that it's not R1 but locally packed.  But if its like the Laserdisc days where LD are all import.  Why not.  Btw.  There also HK made LD which have poor PQ & SQ and misprint,  poor print.  :)

If it is a Hollywood movie, it's better to get the R1 version, since the DVD came from the country of origin. 1 example: Jackie Chan's Rush Hour 2. R1 vs R3, the R1 version has a lot more features, for the R3 version, a lot are missing.

If report is true...all of us will be sharing Region 1 in regard to HD movies but not sure if it's applicable to either HD DVD or BD only or both... :D
