Extreme TH8866 problem
« on: Apr 26, 2006 at 06:55 AM »
Hi All,

My el cheapo TH-8866 has been having problems lately.

It works fine for about an hour or so then the sub's sound gradually degrades to mere cracking. The satellites still work when this happens. I observed that when I turn the unit off and back on again, the problem disappears.

The unit is no longer under warranty(they just gave me 3 months). I tried looking for screws to open the unit but did not find any.

1. Any suggestions on how to fix this annoying problem?
2. Any hint on how to open the wooden casing?

Thanks!

Hi.

baka kasi nag thermal-shutdown yun amp niyan kaya pag off then on gumagana ulit. summer ngayon eh... ang init!  ;D ;D ;D

elvenears,

JojoD818,
Thanks sa advise baka nga thermal issue yung "off then on" problem. Check ko rin.

sir jojo-
thank you sa advice  ;D nakalimutan ko na high tech nga pala to  ;D ;D ;D.....joke....pero baka nga sir ,,to answer your question yes may external heatsink sya,try ko din lagyan ng blower .ano kaya ang magandang pamalit na amp dito sir?para may devoted na amp para sa sub?

es-

para ma determine natin kung ano problema kailangan ko malaman kung umiinit nga yun heatsink. almost always chipamp ang amp na laman niyan and my extensive experiments on many of these chips shows na hindi lang thermal protection ang possible cause ng auto-shutdown ng chips, pati over-current/overload nag protect din. this can be caused by using a too small powered amp and drive it into clipping, the chip senses an over-current and protects itself. most chips resets when the failure event disappears but some are completely off. that's why you need to turn the darn thing off, then on again for it to operate.

let me explain it further sir jojo.....pag naka 2.1 config 6 channels pa din ang gumagana....kasi there is like 3 left channels (from center ,front left and rear left)at 3 right channels (from the woofer ,front right and rear right) at least this is how i think it works........ so this means to say that there are still 6 amps that are functioning individually drawing power from a ps..........pero may point kayo sir pwede ngang mas malamig sya sa ganung config ;D

i tried putting two 80cm fans at the back of the heatsink kaso ganun pa rin.

after about 20mins, the sub starts "crackling" until ala na syang tunog
