Yup, all new Fox R3 releases incorporate Tagalog subtitles, Master and Commander being the most recent example.

hmm... tagalog subtitles... i wonder how well the translations would be.

medyo OT: but how are the tagalog subs on other r3 movies? full tagalog (isn't it supposed to be called filipino now?) ba, or taglish. anyway, just curious.   ;D

erpat? haha! that's cool! but kinda off for such a serious movie like regarding henry.

God forbid (no pun intended) they use that type of slang for passion of the christ. it would be nice if they can stick to traditional tagalog/filipino. not to the point na parang balagtas na, although that would have some nice effect to it. ;) oh well, at least the non-englsih speaking pinoys will be able to appreciate this great movie... that is if they pruchase the original DVD.

but then again, it was originally meant to watched without subs anyway.  ;)

From the image of the R1 posted by aldrinpsx in this thread, it looks like even the insert of the R3 is identical to that of the R1.

Plus we have Tagalog subtitles.  8)

contrary to what was posted here, i found no theatrical trailer in my R3 dvd. buti na lang at maganda ang dts sound at ang tagalog subtitles (hindi corny. para kang nagbabasa ng tagalog bible) kaya sulit na rin.  :)  at least, hindi na ko magdadalawang-isip bumili ng SE next year.

peace!

Guess the theatrical trailer didn't make it to the release version of The Passion. According to my friend who lives in the US, his R1 version doesn't seem to have it either. Can anyone confirm?

Can someone please confirm if our R3 is a fullbit rate.
I read that the R1 Canada and other overseass release are fullbit rate.
They made use of the whole disk for the film only.

Thanks in advance

my sony dvd player has 2 indicators - one says which location of the disc is being read and one says how much is the bit rate. for THE PASSION, the locator read the whole disc - both layers (the dvd is dual-layered) as you watch the movie, which means it occupied both layers of the disc from the inner to the outer rim. however, the bit rate says 448kbps like standard dvds. superbit uses 754 kbps.

It's not an R3 problem. There are no bonus features in this initial release version of the film all around the world. Rumor on this thread is that a feature-filled "Special Edition" is in the works for a Holy Week 2005 release.

Okay, I've seen an R1 version -- no trailer either. Looks like this is a worldwide barebones release. :D Great transfer though, so I'm happy with this version.

It's holy week next.  I thought a more meaty version of this title would be released at this time.  Any news?

actually, mel gibson went the opposite way on this...

he just re-cut the film and trimmed down on the violence  to make it more viewable for younger audiences. i think it's running now in US theaters. not sure if they'll show the new cut here, or if it will come out on dvd.

saw gibson on leno a couple of nights ago.

So the current DVD release would effectively be considered a Director's cut, without edits, right?

well, in a somewhat ex post facto manner, i guess it is, if by "director's cut" we mean a longer version of the film.

then again, with regard to an extended version of the film, we have to remember that Gibson had to deal with very little intervention from movie bigwigs in making the film. or probably none at all. nobody even wanted to lay a hand on the film. so i doubt that the version of the film originally released is not the total consummation of Gibson's vision.

if that is indeed the case, then all we can hope for are commentary track(s) and additional supplemental material.

 :)

well, in a somewhat ex post facto manner, i guess it is. then again, the new cut is just meant to broaden its target audience, rather than increase the film's artistic worth.

but what we're all really waiting for is an extended director's cut. or at least a new release with (multiple) commentary tracks and other supplemental material.

 :)

it would be a blast if Mel would release a special edition  with audio commentaries, a comprehensive making-of featurette, easter (no pun intended) eggs, and a special packaging (hopefully wood) similar to troy. come to think of it, just packaging a full-color 8x10 autographed picture of Monica Belucci with a barebones DVD would already be fine  with me.  ;D ;D

then again, any form of lavishness would be contrary to the entire essence of the film, won't it?

hey, i wasn't asking for an "Irreversible Monica Belucci" picture. even a simple "The Passion of the Christ Monica Belucci" would still be ok.
