Anyone here of SR700 model owners experienced this?

My friend owns an SR700, bnew, paired with Mission M74.  Whenever he plays a cd on his DVD player (hooked via Digital COAx of MIT Terminator 3) at 65 volume level, when he slowly turns down the volume knob there is a very tiny popping sound coming out of the speaker for every step of the volume level.  He returned the unit after a week and got another SR700, but still has this popping sound.  But this only happens when you turn the volume up, say 70, then go down slowly, while playing a soft instrumental cd, you'll here the popping sound.  When playing nothing or the tuner, wala naman.

What is this popping sound?  It is very annoying.  anyone from onkyo or toyama here can explain this?

Thanks a lot.

Anybody here with a TX-DS787?

I have a TX-DS787 and 5.1 Pioneer speakers (can't remember the model but the left/right/surround speakers are the same bookshelf type).  I dunno if it is receiver related but it is about the sound level whenever I watch movies.  Whenever it is on a scene with just dialog, you have to raise the volume to hear the dialogs clearly. But when it changes to action scenes while maintaining the same volume level, the sound is to loud so I need to lower the volume.  Anybody experience this?  It is quite annoying raising/lowering the volume especially at night.

TNX.

I hope this will help you.

On the speaker setup of the Receiver, increase the volume of the center channel. You may also decrease or adjust the volume of the mains and surround speakers to your desired loudness.

If your center speaker is small, set it to small (lower frequencies will redirect to the subwoofer), if it is big, then set it to big.

Actually, I did those things already. I have made a +8db difference for the center channel. The alternative I'm going to test is to set the difference real high. Is this still ok?

Check the manual for Dynamic Compression. It will limit extreme sound effects.

Hi levi,
TNX for the reply. I checked the manual and there's no option or setting for Dynamic Compression. There's a Re-EQ option which will adjust the sounds that was supposedly for cinema setup to home theater setup. I'll test this one later.

what speakers would you recommend for an Onkyo tx-sr600?

I'm thinking of:
1. B&W 600 series
2. Mission m70 series

Please advise which one would I get. I will use it 50% movies / 50% music.

Thanks!

Thanks Hans,

But my max budget for the L/R fronts is 30k+. And medyo over na yata dito yung price ng floorstanders na B&W 600 series?

What if kung yung 602 S3 and gawing kong fronts? Ok kaya ito pag sa music?
