I was able to fix it. Meron ngang nagdikit na wire not sa ampli itself but on my left front channel. Hehe

best to use banana plugs for safety's sake... or if AVR/speaker only has the spring clip, either you sold the wire strands or use an interconnects intended for spring clips (forgot how it's called)

buti yun lang naging issue mo, sir... =))

Just want to revive this thread.

My close to 9 years old Onkyo 809 acted up a couple of days back. Suddenly lost audio.Tried all possible fixes I can do as video is normal but without sound using all sources including FM tuner. I was forced to do the hard reset twice but still no sound. I tried doing Audyssey set up but its not working anymore.

It looks like it needs serious repair already that will cost me a lot.

Never gave me any problem except when I needed to replace the HDMI cables. I got it for 41k when it was being sold locally for around 70k I think. The sad part is I can not afford to buy an equivalent model anymore, which I believe is the RZ 8 series

my 9-yr old onkyo 818 broke down last dec. the sound setting keeps on scrolling and won't stop. mabuti nalang nagamit ko ang denon 2308 na lampas ng 5 yrs ng nakatago sa cabinet. pansin ko na mas maganda ang sound ng denon kesa onyo kaso hindi pa capable to process dolby truHD at dts.

i sent the 818 for repair in cebu. mabuti naayos naman, pinalitan lang ang mga tac switches na nag stuck.

also, a friend informed me na may 818 recall sa US na pwede mag avail ng discounted 8 and 9 series models. i still have until march 2020 to decide if i'm going to avail this offer. onkyo only needs the serial no and no need to return the receiver.

Good news for you Weng.

All 809s manufactured from 2009 to 2012 was acknowledged by Onkyo to be problematic, having the same problem of losing sound. Onkyo offered I think to repair for free(to be sent to the US) up until Dec 2018. Sad that the RZ 840 is at least 60k something I cant shell out anymore.

bro tirso,

try to log on your 809's serial no and see if it is included in the trade-in program.

I have a friend who just had his 809 repaired in Toyama .... changed the problematic HDMI board and update the firmware .... Repair cost is P14k.  With the stock HDMI board, the sound chip overheats.

At first, the cost seemed too much but when we heard the sound after the repair and it's like it was upgraded to the next level.  The amp became more controlled and still authoritative.  We enjoyed watching concerts with this amp. Also, the HDMI board does not run hot as it used to.

Also, another tip on the 809, don't let dust gather on the HDMI board as this also causes it to malfunction.  The HDMI board is located on top next to the casing grill.

Yan yung Toyama yan ang service center ng Onkyo. Yung isang kaibigan ni refer ako sa tech na Toyama na magaling daw gumawa 4k ang singil sa akin labor and materials baka sa Sunday ko pa home service.

The HDMI boars also handle the audio I/O of the receiver.  In the case of my friend, wala din problema yung video. Nawala din yung audio niya and after the board replacement and firmware upgrade ok na yung unit niya.

bga issue, palit hdmi board , reballing or change the chipset with DTS logo on top
palit hdmi board very expensive just buy a second hand avr with upgraded features
reballing without changing the chipset  just a temporarily fix it will only last 1 to 2 years

HDMI board replacement around 15k daw. The RZ 840, which is the current equivalent of the 809 is around 63k. Both I can not afford at the moment.

Mga sir,

Question regarding no sound using ARC sa Onkyo 393. Ang connection ko is Receiver(ARC) to TV(ARC). Naka on yung ARC sa amp and yung audio ko sa tv is ARC rin ang pinili ko. hdmi 2.0 cable ang gamit ko.

^have you enabled the ARC feature sa TV audio settings? sometimes its the hdmi connection. try to use another cable to isolate.

I have plan on buying a second hand onkyo trsr602 receiver, only problem it doesn't have a remote control.
Is it possible all the function can be done manually on the panel.

Setting it up yes but its a pain to do so using the front panel controls. Better get a replacement from Lazada. Its just around 300 bucks. Just adjusting the volume while you are comfortable in your chair will make the investment worth it.  Onkyo remotes will work with different models.  Just get the one that is within the model range (6xx series)
Pioneer Elite/Dynaudio/REL 7.1 THX
Pioneer DDJ SR2/Pioneer DM60/Mac Air M1
Sonos/NHT 2,1 sub sat

Good Evening po! My Onkyo TX-NR609 had this check SP wire message sa panel.  Have removed all the speaker cables and still when I power on, same check SP wire message.  Any DIY you would recommend?

TIA!
