hi, how much ba average price ng 494 and where can i find it ?

Not sure if you can still find onkyo 494, it was replaced by new model txsr500 with almost the same in price range, more power but without phono input. You can check out with hyperaudio in home theater forum under general category  ;)

:Dmy onkyo tx-ds494 (18,000.00  -  sights & sounds) is now a year old and so far i have no problem with it.  i like watching action movies with the volume knob set to 11 to 12 position. the feature that i like best is its auto protection circuitry.  it automatically shuts off whenever there is an overload.  the speaker terminals are great too.  you can biwire your speakers.  my room is not that large and i am quite satisfied with 5.1.  it also easily drives my wharfs with 86 sensitivity.  this is the typical receiver for one who wants simplicityand reliability.   ;D

we have the sr600... laking difference kse dati pro-logic lang yng reciever nmin, when we upgraded to onkyo wow parang bago ulit yng pipitsugin namin speakers!! hehehe. we have upgraded our front speakers to m73 kya mas maganda bass reponse.maliit lang yng room nmin(arnd 4mx3m) kaya bingi kami pagnanood ng movie, s 2nd floor yng room nmin pero kahit n sarado ang door ska windows eh rinig p rin s baba yng dog fight s pearl harbor.
pansin din nmin n masmaganda yng video signal n dumadaan nang onkyo. ive tried n ideretso yng video out ng dvd player s tv nmin, tapos compare ko sya s video output n galing s onkyo mas malinaw nga yng galing onkyo.
sr600 supports dts-es discrete pro kahit n wla pang back center yng setup namin pwede mong disable to,tapos yng signal for the back center will be reproduced s surround left and surround right speakers.
it also comes with a programmable remote which has 2 programmable macro. isang pindot lang at program nmin n mag power on yng tv,then switch to video input, power on reciver, switch to dvd input, power on dvd player and eject tray. nice.
output is rated @ 85wx5 for 8ohms load.very nice. ;D

6.1 is one of the reasons kaya nmin n gustohan yng SR600.ska kng existing setup is still 5.1, you can disable the back center, para pgnagupgrade k nang center yng lumang center n ang gagamitin mong back center. nice. 8)

Define what do you mean by cool features...DTS/DD Capable is standard in any HT...If you want AVR with DTS-ES and DD-EX...Then sr600 will be the avr you are looking..thats around 24 to 26k

Me and my friends tweaked the Onkyo SR700 with the M74 matched with Ixos 6006 speaker wire and pairs of banana plugs, hooked to an LD player (CLD-D580) routed to a Musical Fidelity X-10D and X-PSU using ixos 104 interconnects.

After an hour and a half of warm-up on the X-10D, which btw has a stock JAN Philips 6922 tubes, the sound of the Onkyo further sweetened when we played Norah jones, Jim Chappell's Serenity Rush, Livingston Taylor's Ink, and Reference Recording Serendipity (courtesy of Hyperaudio) with Pure audio mode switched on.  The set-up tamed the somewhat brightness of the M74, making it warm.  Removing the banana plugs made it warmer but with the trade off of making it sound marumi.  We prefered using the banana plugs with this set-up to emphasize clarity in general.
