Questions mga bros, I'm currently using an onkyo 818. What setting should I use in the speaker set up when I use Left, Right, Center SVS M01 speakers na 4ohms, and an SVS SSS-02 speakers na 8ohms?
Is it also safe for the AVR to use speakers with different impedance?
Thanks.
page 59 on the manual:
Speaker Impedance4 ohms: Select if the impedance of
any speaker is 4 ohms or more but less than 6.
6 ohms: Select if the impedances of all speakers are between 6 and 16 ohms.
when
Speaker Impedance is set to
4 ohms, a current limiter is activated within the circuitry so that output power remains within safe operating specs.
impedance ratings as published by speaker manufacturers are average values within the operating bandwidth of the speaker, it's not constant across all frequencies. a speaker rated at 8 ohms may have impedance as low as maybe 6 ohms and can be as high as 50+ ohms.
the 818 is certified for 4 ohms performance, and being THX certified it must also be able to handle as speaker loads as low as 3.2 ohms for short durations.
The 818 might have a hard time with that combination. AFAIK the onkyos can handle different impedances if they're 6 and 8 ohms. however sa literature niya its indicated to avoid using different impedences. If you'd still want to try the setting should be at 4ohms.
i seem to have missed this part...
