whenever anyone from abroad asks for classics of Filipino movies, most of the time we come empty-handed, because they are not on DVD.  so what Filipino movies would be on your wish list to be on DVD?

It would be nice to compile a list and circulate it on e-mail, so that the owners of these films may start to realize that their might be profit in it on DVD.

i was talking to Ronald Arguelles of Cinema One yesterday and he told me they only have the cable rights to these films. releasing them on dvd or vcd is a different story...

Insiang is available on DVD. You can buy it for PhP 450.00 in Powerbooks.

I haven't seen this one. Is it worth a blind buy?

Grab everything Klaus. I have both DVDs. They DVDs aren't great, but having the films available on your shelf anytime you want to watch Brocka's best is worth more than their tagprice.

Agree with Oggs. I'm getting those babies in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, this is just the start of a series of really high quality releases.

It's only Brocka's finest work, my opinion, and one of the finest Filipino films ever.

Oh, an important question for you all:

Manila by Night (a.k.a. City After Dark) is also available but I don't know if this is the edited theatrical version or the original uncut one. Does anyone know?

The Classic Comedies of Dolphy and Panchito --

KALABOG EN BOSYO on top of my list

I already have Ibong Adarna on VCD.

They don't make comedies like that anymore now.

Apparently it's the edited version. I wouldn't know for sure, I've never seen it on DVD.

Second. Just got these myself. The remastering and packaging are adequate, the cover art Criterion-quality and the tagprice more than reasonable.

Having seen the film in theaters and also on "uncut" bootleg Betamax years ago, I can say that the DVD has the same contents as the allegedly "uncut" bootleg video I saw. It's different from the official Betamax/VHS version that was released in the Philippines in the 1980s - that one was shorter, and had a lot of dialogue censored on it, as well. This DVD runs 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 32 seconds. I'm not certain if there was a longer version released.

But picture quality is quite bad for this title, by the way:

There are quite a number of interesting titles out on VCD that I wish they'd release on DVD. Example: Those films from Agrix.

ALL those worthy classic tagalog horror films that really scare the bejesus out of us during the '70 and '80's in theaters as well as in the boobtube and continue to haunt us (in our memory) to this day!
