The caucasians in the pictures are actually camera and sound men, from the boom mikes/cameras they're carrying.

I wonder if these are actually The Amazing Race: Asia contestants, since they were supposed to begin racing in June - although I'm basing that on the one Asian guy photographed clearly who looks like a racer.  ::)

From USA Today:

The Amazing Race is always known for its diverse group of contestants, but the reality show wins extra points for its 10th season due this fall.

Among the 12 teams competing in the new season (moving to Sundays at 8 ET/PT) are the show's first Muslims (best friends from Cleveland), first Indians (a Florida couple) and first Chinese contestants (brothers from San Francisco), along with the first amputee (a woman who competed in the Iron Man triathlon) and first father/lesbian daughter duo.

The 28-day, 40,000-mile course begins in Seattle, moves quickly to Beijing and includes stops in Kuwait, Mongolia, Madagascar and Vietnam, all of which presented challenges to producers and therefore contestants.

"We sent them head-first into the toughest possible areas," says executive producer Jonathan Littman. "It really threw them for a loop."

Race's eighth-season family edition last fall was a failed experiment that "did some damage to us (in the ratings), there's no question about it," says creator Bertram van Munster, and won't be back. Whether the show will remains to be seen: CBS has yet to order an 11th edition that would air next spring.

Best first episode for this series in a few years. 90 minutes is a good time, it didn't feel overdrawn like the previous seasons.

The cast is even more diverse than the current Survivor cast. Survivor has more likeable Asians, though. Or maybe I'm biased since Survivor's Asians include 2 Pinoys. But those two brothers on TAR sort of annoyed me with their water pistol antics and their general demeanor. But I dislike the African American single parents a lot more. I don't like their attitude.

The surprise twist worked - it really surprised me. I'm a bit bummed that both the Moslems and the Indians are gone after the first episode, but what can you do? It's a race!

same here. I was gunning for the Moslems -- or at least for them to stay long enough so that viewers will see the discrimination they face when travelling abroad. This would have been a great opportunity to do that.

I was actually glad the Indians were eliminated. I'm not a big fan of Indians.

I'm a bit pissed that after all that ballyhoo on having the first all-Indian and Moslem team on the race, they'd be the first TWO teams eliminated. I really liked those guys.

Same here--can't stand those two "win" brothers--looks like all that pumping iron just filled their egos and brains with air. I hope this isn't a preview of the kind of teams for The Amazing Race Asia.

I wanted to like the couple with the disabled woman, but the guy annoys me, like he's some kind of wired control freak that's about to short a fuse.  :P

The elimination of the Moslems was kinda unfair, but it did say in the clue that "the last team might be eliminated", and the father-daughter team was even remarking about that in the cab, that could a team be eliminated so soon?

Me likey so far: the coalminer couple, the gay couple, the father-daughter team, and the cheerleaders.

Meh teams: the couple with another ass named Rob, the male models and the beauty queens.

All pit stops must be at least like the one they just had. That was nail-biting!

Sarah, the bionic woman, seems to be channeling Charla. She wants to prove that her disability does not matter yet takes advantage of it when necessary. I hope I'm wrong. That being said, the single moms overreacted a bit. They can't afford to focus on another team while they're on the race.

I also hope the models do not echo Eric and Jeremy. They're still tolerable... for now. The Asian bros were embarrassing especially after a more formidable Asian team on Survivor.

As much as I was disappointed with the last two teams eliminated, poor racing skills and bad luck were more of a factor. Hope this means more diversity in the next installments.

Lastly, I hope they stick with this timeslot. It's most conducive so far considering its competition.

I got the exact same Charla flashback while I was watching her last night.

In the States? Up against Sunday Night Football, The Simpsons, and reality show ratings hit Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? I thought this was the worst possible timeslot they could put this ratings-challenged show on.  ???

Guess you're right. The premiere's ratings were behind the said shows and even fell by 10% from ( :o) last year's Family Edition.

Speaking of Charla and TAR 5, it looks like Colin's broxen ox will be haunting the contestants in the next episode.

May "Miss America" pa naman...  8)

I don't know why, but I'm not as sold on this edition, despite the good casting and interesting locations. I guess it's because no one stands out as extremely likeable nor extremely hatable to me - those types of characters tend to make you want to watch a show more.

I was also annoyed by the first part, where four teams got on a bus that was two hours later than the first group - just to have them meet up with the leaders at the train station. Bad enough there are airport equalizers, but a "fake" 2 hour disadvantage to be evened up at a train equalizer just 3 minutes later on the episode? Completely pointless.

This season, Survivor has my attention as the better of the two reality old timers. By a long shot!

This team is definitely Charla and Mirna incarnate. It was really disturbing how he was barking at her... to have fun.  ??? I wasn't also amused how he treated her like a circus freak.

If the preview were any indication, those beauty queens may give Team Guido a run for their money.

Best episode so far! Potential Emmy tape for 5th win.

It was a bittersweet one. So glad for the team winning first place. After an unfavorable first impression, they are starting to look like one of the classier teams left. Paying respect to certain sites do pay off. A race does not necessarily mean checking your manners at the door. So sad for the team eliminated. Bad Fern! Nail-biting final moments.

I hope the missed footage today was due to the US broadcast since I can't hate Heart Evangelista more. Can't wait to see the primetime telecast tonight.

Fourth episode, four different teams winning each leg. Definite improvement from last season.

Peter and Sarah are the new Charla and Mirna. Like Mirna, Peter leaves most of the hard work to Sarah. He's not disabled but he whines more.

It was exhausting to see the teams get overwhelmed by... rowing!  ;D

Rob's an asswipe. There was no justification for being mean to those cab drivers just because they can't understand him. In contrast, Mary was very kind to their driver, even though they fell completely behind during that leg because they also had to return to the clue and listen again.

The beauty queens just proved the stereotype of being blonde and beautiful--they're idiots.
