New Line Home Entertainment is revisiting Middle Earth with new DVD releases of Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King will each be presented in two-disc “Limited Edition” sets with an exclusive behind-the scenes documentary. The DVDs street Aug. 29 (prebook July 25) at $28.98 each.

For each film, disc one presents both the theatrical version of the film and its extended edition through seamless branching, while disc two features an intimate, never-before-seen documentary created by Costa Botes. The feature-length documentaries, with more than 300 minutes of never-before-available footage, focus on a number of complexities and circumstances and affected the making of the movies.

How many dips will these films get.... in so short a time span.

The proper way is to put all those documentaries on one set and price it at $15-20. That how much it is worth. But that wouldn't sell, so they include films most fans already have and sell it at $90. Greedy, Greedy, Greedy.

So what happens to all of us who got the old set... sell again?... nah, I liked the old set. So I will pass this one for sure, no matter what they include. Truth to tell, I haven't finished watching the extras on those 'old' EE disc, so why bother...

I will pass on this not unless there's a figure included.

But the cover art looks nice. It's only DVD release. It's better if it's in HD-DVD or BD.

another version? well, unless the ROTK includes the supposed/rumored extended ending exclusive only to cast/crew, i will not be getting this one.

Another set, eh? I'm tempted to get this one, but i don't think i would. Already have the theatrical and extended editions, and i no longer watch the theatrical versions.

Quite greedy, i might add. I remember hearing Peter Jackson in one of the Audio Commentaries say he might release a chronological version of the movies, maybe, on it's 25 th anniversary, a la Godfather.

This is worth it for those who do not have the extended editions yet. At least this time, you get to watch the extended editon in one disc without having to insert a second disc. Hmmm, paano kaya pinagkasya in 1 disc yon? DTS-ES din ba?

I don't think this will be the last release of the trilogy...there's even news of an ultimate edition set. Only thing I know so far is that it'll have bloopers from the set. No double-dip for me on this...great artwork though.

those cover arts look familiar.

I came across a site that had those and some more cover arts for Lord of the Rings. They're really good. I was able to download them and replaced the cover arts of my local LOTR dvds.

I'll try to find the site again and post here later. I don't have the downloaded files with me right now; they're at home.

Hard to top the extended eds. If I have to double-dip, iyong first theatrical trilogy na lang kasi may trailers which is 1 of my favorite DVD features.

so jackson is doing a lucas eh. unless it has the blooper reel that ive read about in empire i dont think it's worth sinking your teeth into if you have the definitive extended versions. unless, of course, these are extended extended versions. iba na namang usapan yan.

Home Media Retailing has scored quite the scoop and a look at some new artwork for brand new upcoming editions of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
New Line Home Entertainment will be releasing limited edition releases of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King with each including the following:

For each film, disc one presents both the theatrical version of the film and its extended edition through seamless branching, while disc two features an intimate, never-before-seen documentary created by Costa Botes. The feature-length documentaries, with more than 300 minutes of never-before-available footage, focus on a number of complexities and circumstances and affected the making of the movies.
The DVDs will be hitting shelves on August 29 according to the site and will be retailing around $28.98 each. You can click here for a slightly larger look at the image above and the full story.

The only detail I believe will change is the number of discs considering the extended editions spanned 2 discs each when they were released, that is unless New Line is not including all the special feature commentaries or the DTS tracks. We will have to wait for the official announcment to find that out.

A definite no-buy for me. I think this a set of titles that there should be a consumer boycott against, since to release new versions so soon after the first set of extended releases just reeks of corporate greed.

Unfortunately, LOTR fans will definitely buy these up. Hell, I actually bought a total of 6 versions of Star Wars Episodes IV-VI in different formats...

1. Fullscreen VHS
2. Fullscreen Laserdisc
3. Widescreen Laserdisc
4. Fullscreen Special Edition VHS
5. Widescreen Special Edition Laserdisc
6. DVD

...until finally deciding enough is enough!

Luckily, LOTR is one movie series I'm not passionate about, so I can use my $90 on other titles.

the thing is, as long as somebody gets this, the studios will keep churning them out. maybe in a year, the blue ray disc/hd dvd editions or whatever will be coming out with yet more new stuff...

got bored with the theatrical releases as well but enjoyed every minute of the extended editions.
