Help naman, baka may alam kayo sa settings ng player.
thanks.

Check the video setup of the player... might be in 4:3 format... check mo din kung naka-zoom yung player, or might as well, reset the player (check your manual on how to reset settings of your player)

Goodluck :)

Are you sure your dvds are in widescreen format? the reason why black panels appear in a widescreen tv/lcd is because the format of the movie is in fullscreen...

anyway, have you tried to reset your dvd player?

It's the DVD.

Some data are encoded to be played only at a maximum 480p resolution. :-\

If one goes to a higher display resolution(720p, 1080i),the images gets compressed to broadcast the resolution properties. :P

Change it to 480p, and you'll get the intended normal size picture.  ;)

Interesting. I have the same DVD player and I sometimes have the same problem but since I use a video processor, I can adjust the picture to fill up the screen, even at 1080p. I haven't tried displaying at 480p .. maybe tonight, just to experiment.

I always thought that the problem was that the DVD is non-anamorphic. Technically, the DVD was encoded with a 4:3 Frame Aspect Ratio, even if the image was actually 16:9. That's why it doesn't fill up the screen.
