135th British Open on ESPN
« on: Jul 21, 2006 at 07:42 AM »
Had not Lefty fumbled on the 72nd hole in the US Open, it would have been a more hyped Open Championships as surely we'll be talking about a Mickelson Slam.  Instead, we have the Big Two both aiming to recover from US Open debacles.

Sports writers again likes the chances of TW......he's on the right track, shooting a 67 in the ifrst round, a shot off the lead.

Coverage is also fan friendly for us....starts at 4pm.... ;D ;D

Tiger Wins!!

Emotional win for TW.    Leading by only a solitary stroke at the start of the round and chased by a strong cast of challengers,  he played flawless golf, didnt even blink at the pressure, and shot the day's best round for a 67.  This is total control.  A masterpiece in terms of decision making and shot control. Its not his most dominating performance but definitely the most impressive ive seen so far.

Earl's smiling from above.  :)

Agree munskie. His best win so far. Crushingly cool and calculating. Overwhelming his opponents by driving behind them, this time -- and they thought it was his power that gave him an edge. Unrelenting patience in the face of all the little temptations that lurk in every corner of Hoylake.

Regarding his rivals, the Independent says: "any golfer with mental frailties is hardly likely to shed them in the company of Woods"

Only the gutty Chris Di Marco showed spunk in chasing Tiger.  I was reading all the online articles yesterday, and they were all in the impression that Tiger will be beaten.  Hehe...Sergio melted like a butter, wala pa halfway sa round.  Its really a classic performance.  Hitting driver only once, he was 1st in driving accuracy, 2nd in greens in regulation.  Now lahat ng mga golf columnist are in awe.  Sabi nga ni Hank Haney, you cannot apply that strategy if you dont hit your long irons well.  Tiger did.  Better than guys who used shorter irons on their approach. ;D ;D

Pinuyat ako ng ESPN sa round 4 - the only round where I watched Tiger Woods from hole 1 to hole 18. Unbelievable! Very consistent and methodical win. Shutting out emotion, to be playing the course and not the contenders is a very difficult thing to do.

Now, I wanna see the matchup sa PGA Championship....how Lefty will respond in defense of his title.  Mas mapupuyat tayo dun, medyo forgiving na nga ang Bristish Open sa airtime.  Pag US eastern time, madaling araw ang umpisa dito hehehe   ;D ;D
