New Line Home Entertainment has announced Final Destination 3 which stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ryan Merriman. This latest horror sequel will be available to own from the 25th July, in seperate widescreen and full screen releases. Each will carry English Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, DTS 6.1 ES and Stereo Surround tracks. Extras will include commentary by director and co-writer James Wong, co-writer Glen Morgan and director of photography Robert Mclachlan, a Choose-Their-Fate Interactive feature, an It’s All Around You animated short (looking at death statistics), and a Dead Teenager Movie featurette that looks at the teen horror genre. Completing the package will be a Kill Shot: The Making of Final Destination 3 documentary, a Planned Accidents featurette, a "Police Station" deleted scene, and the theatrical trailer.

Wow, I was just reading Daily Variety, and New Line has just revealed that Final Destination 3: Thrill Ride Edition will be the first FULLY INTERACTIVE major motion picture on DVD:

The cast and crew signed confidentiality clauses not to reveal that the movie would be transformed into an interactive game when the DVD was released. The producers allocated an additional $700,000-$1M to the film's budget, so that at 10 minute intervals, home viewers will make an on-screen choice that affects the way the story will go - like those old "Choose Your Own Adventure" books. They shot multiple takes and endings, which are dependent on which options you choose with your remote control, for example:

"Should Wendy take another look?" Yes No

There will be a total of seven different choices. You can also opt to view the theatrical version of the film.

New Line is thinking about doing this for future film projects, but will first see how consumers respond to this title to see how profitable the additional investment is.

I don't know about you guys, but this announcement has now made this my most anticipated DVD of 2006!

From my comment, I think I made the impression that you're just making it up. Sorry about that. With that line what I meant was if the plan really pushes through and gets released.

I'm watching this right now. It's cool! The transition to the "choice" screen is very smooth, as is the transition back into the film with the choice you made. I was expecting something choppy, like those "branching versions" of films we sometimes get on DVD.

Of the 4 choices I've made so far, only one really significantly changed the outcome of the story - with VERY "sucky" consequences!

The other three altered the upcoming on-screen death, but eventually continued with the main plot line within minutes after the altered sequence.

Hopefully the final choice branches the film into two radically different endings, so the changes aren't just fun diversions that are ultimately... useless.

Priced at $36.09 at Amazon. I don't have any of the films yet, so this would be the best option for me.

The final branching is interesting. It branches into 3 possible endings - the "everyone lives" ending that was hated at test screenings, the "everyone dies" ending, and the "did everyone die?" ending. One forced branch makes you read a news article about the fates of the survivors of Final Destination 2. Nice wrap-up they added for that installment.

It's a nice novelty disc to own because of this "you make a choice" feature, but the film itself is just miles away from the unexpected shocks of Part 1 or the greatest car crash sequence of all-time of Part 2. The gore level is at par with the other films... but they're really milking a dead cow at this point.
