SET sound with Push Pull Circuit
« on: Aug 07, 2006 at 03:18 PM »
How do you get SET sound using Push Pull amp circuit? Through transformer (via special winding technique) or proprietary circuit. Any push pull designs you know that has SET-like sound.

why not use the true triode tube instead of penthode/tetrode?

I have a SET-sounding push-pull amp.  It uses four big triode 845s in a monoblock push-pull config delivering 80wpc.  Sound is fantastic.

Andrew of AMX also mentioned that a push-pull el84 with the right topology approaches the SET sound.
I have an AMX EL84 and I am happy with the sound.

rascal,

depende. kung Dynaco ST-70, EL34 ang gamit nun. Kung EICO ST-70 naman, 7591 tubes ang gamit.

Just curious... how do you define SET sound?  There are different circuit topologies used for an SET type amp  :)   with each topology having it's own signature sound.

ay kaganda naman niyan manong Andy!  ;D suave ang concensus sa mga nagpa-convert ng mga ST70 sa 6922. May triode switch din? Lapit na sa SET sound siguro pag naka triode mode.

Pics naman senyor.  8)

ah ok, cascode pala yan, so tignan nating ang pinagkaiba ng pentode input sa cascode input...hmmm..wonder how the 12AT7 will fare in that circuit....

I was told that the Curcio boards, together with a triode-mode mod on the outputs can sound close to true SET amps.  ;)
