Maganda talaga yan kagawad - lalo na it reminds us of our celebrated member na komedyante  ;D
Kaso, nasubukan ko na Onkyo eh - maiba naman tayo ng panlasa ngayon ;)

Which reminds me.........I had taken this pic 3-3.5yrs ago:

Unfortunately, that amp never saw the light of day while it was with me as I sold it still sealed. It was also during that time that I was contemplating going the pre/pro route ::)

Dapat din pala hindi ko binenta yung Sony AVR that I won last xmas party .............. but nahhh :D

Neutral naman ang svs speakers - but that neutrality could be swayed din to either directions depending on how manipulating the amplifier is.
In a perfect world, the amp's job is just to amplify - but we all know that there are amps that really are not neutral.

According to that 2nd link you posted - sir Simple is selling a 668 = 1708. Anybody care to explain the 3-digit model number as compared to the 4-digit?

Kagawad...this maybe the answer to your query. ;)

Taken from http://batpigworld.com/models.html

Denon Model Numbers, Explained

With so many different Denon AVR's out there, the dizzying number of different model number designations can be very confusing. However, once you understand the Denon nomenclature for numbering their receivers, things make a little more sense.

The first thing to learn is that Denon puts out two parallel receiver lineups, with four-digit and three-digit model numbers. The primary difference is the retail distribution: four-digit models are generally sold by high end stereo shops and custom installers, whereasthe three-digit models are the "consumer" version sold in retail outlets like Circuit City and Fry's.

However, there is ZERO difference in terms of power, specs, sound quality, build quality, etc. between the two lines!! Denon has been doing this for years, it is exactly analagous to the Yamaha "HTR" and "RX-V" parallel receiver lines. But each 3-digit/4-digit "twin" model will have IDENTICAL internals; do NOT believe any marketing B.S. that the 4-digit models have higher quality components.

There will usually be one or two minor differences to differentiate the three-digit and four-digit models. In general, the four-digit versions will add a couple of "custom installer friendly" features like an RS-232 serial port, slightly more flexible multizone options, 12V triggers, or a room-to-room remote jack. There is also typically a slight cosmetic difference between the two lines.

Note that this "parallel" numbering scheme only applies to the "consumer level" Denons that you will find in retail shops, basically everything up to the 33xx/9xx level. The higher end models (basically anything at the 4xxx level and up), with their bigger prices and narrower market, don't get a "consumer" version.

Now that you understand that the three-digit and four-digit models are "parallel" lineups, you are ready to learn the number scheme:

    * The FIRST number (or first two numbers on four-digit models) tells you the "level" of the receiver. So for three-digit models, the 8xx is one step up from the 7xx, which is one step up from the 6xx. For four-digit models, the 23xx is above the 19xx, which is above the 16xx, and so forth.

    * The LAST number is the model year. So, for example, the 789 is last year's (2009 model) 7XX level receiver, and the 790 is THIS year's (2010 model) 7XX level receiver, and the new 791 is the brand-new 2011 model. If it ends in "1", it's a brand new model.

That's pretty much it! So, if you are at Best Buy and you see the brand-new 1911 model, but there is also a special on the 2310CI model, you now know that the 1911 (ends in "11") is one year newer than the 2310 (ends in "10"), but the 2310 is a higher-end model than the 1911 (the first two numbers are bigger, the 23xx series is above the 19xx series). So you'd be comparing a higher-end closeout model from last year versus a lower-end but new model.

The following table gives info on the three-digit vs. four-digit model equivalents, going back to the xx07 models (the first year that HDMI and Audyssey were fully implemented in the consumer lineup). Note that, since xx10, every Denon AVR model has complete HD audio ability throughout the entire lineup!

Would anyone know how would a denon xx11 (ie 2311) perform on a 4Ω speaker? Most of what I read about these new models are that they are rated to a minimum of 6Ω only. Will three 4Ω-speakers kill these avrs (If i get a 4Ω lcr and 8Ω surrounds) when used for HT? My only reason for getting an AV receiver is because of its versatility (am/fm, preouts, HD audio, ipod ready, audyssey mulitieq) and basically cheaper than a processor/amp combination.

I really enjoyed the Denon + SVS speaker combo - it seems to have more body than with Onkyo.
Medyo nakakalito lang ang settings for the first time user like me :P

BTW - If I unplug the unit, would it loose my saved settings over time?

As long as you saved your setting, that will remain until you decide to restore defaut setting or save a new setting. :)

brader stick, can you please share how you restore the saved settings. minsan kasi nawala ang audyssey multeq (unlit icon) sa receiver's screen lalo na pag di ko na lock ang MENU. when i go to Room EQ, ang selection ay ON, OFF and custom nalang at wala na ang Audyssey, Audyssey L&R (bypass) & Audyssey Flat. all i can do is repeat the bloody calibration to make it lit (audyssey multeq) again. i tried to find where is that restore thingy sa Menu but to no avail.

brader stick, can you please share how you restore the saved settings.

After running the Audessey calibration and you have already seen the final results of the calibration, you will be asked to save the settings. Once you choose to save the settings, no matter how often you switch the unit "on" and "off," you will continue to have the same settings.

To restore the receiver to it's original and "default" factory settings, access the System Speaker set-up option and scroll to the very end. The last option would be "Restore Yes<" By pressing the "left" arrow key on the remote, this will activate the restoration process of your receiver.

minsan kasi nawala ang audyssey multeq (unlit icon) sa receiver's screen lalo na pag di ko na lock ang MENU. when i go to Room EQ, ang selection ay ON, OFF and custom nalang at wala na ang Audyssey, Audyssey L&R (bypass) & Audyssey Flat. all i can do is repeat the bloody calibration to make it lit (audyssey multeq) again. i tried to find where is that restore thingy sa Menu but to no avail.

AFAIK, the MultiEQ can switched "on" & "off" thru the remote of the receiver. There is a button labeled MULTI EQ. This is what I use to access the option.

What Denon AVR model do you own brader Weng? :)

Could it be that the memory back-up battery is no longer functioning hence the loss of Audyssey's settings?

Thanks. The restoration is only to bring it back to factory settings. I always choose to save the settings after each calibration but it happened a few times already that the audyssey multieq just go unlit and no option to select it again. I will use the orig controller if this will happen again. Naka universal remote  a kasi ako at baka may napindot sa remote to de-activate it.

Could be...but there is an access button on the front panel of the receiver for the Multi EQ as well. :)
