Fellow Denon Owners

Recently acquired a brand new denon avr1508, my problem is everytime I play a dts disc, the receiver doesn't display the "DTS SURROUND", instead what it always shows is "Dolby Digital".

I set my player digital out to raw and pcm, but of no success.

Please help

Tnx

what's ur previous set-up po?

may be this can be solved by digital connection

i think you have to set the dvd player audio out. usually may 3 choices sa audio output: dts, DD and stereo, aside from the different languages

sir,

re audio output, are you referring to the digital output of the player?  tried spdif off, raw and pcm - but to no avail.

what seems to be the problem?

set your dvd player to output dolby digital and dts in bitstream format. that way, your receiver will do the decoding. :)

sir,

tried this one already, unfortunately, even if the player indicates dts, the receiver still displays dolby digital, how weird ???

I use coax digital out from my source to the receiver.  Ganoon lang po ka-simple set-up ko.  Is it possible kaya hindi mag-dts is walang subwoofer na naka-kabit?  Pero bakit dolby digital nag-a-appear?

I don't think subwoofer-less set up causes it po.
Try checking the input mode of the receiver if set to Auto

make sure your disc is dts encoded. baka naman wala talagang dts audio. kung meron makikita mo sa main menu select mo sa language.

sir,

nka-auto po, kapag dts ang sound coming from the player, dolby ang output sa display ng avr, if kapag select ko naman ang dts sa receiver lumalabas sa avr display ang dts pero wala namang sound :'(

parang yung source ang may defect po.
in my opinion, you player throws dolby signal not dts signal
what's your player po (brand, model)?

Will you buy a 25% cheaper 2808 than a 2809?  Did the comparison already and will need others advise to make up my mind...

TIA

The main difference is that the 2809 has Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. These features are incredibly good, particularly Dynamic EQ, but it is useful only if you listen at levels below reference. If you do, I would get the 2809.

2809 IMO.

i hate anything that limits the volume, but it's always been my motto to buy the best you can afford.

I agree. Believe me, those features are very useful when doing midnight movie marathons. ;) But if you have a dedicated soundproofed room and don't have a need to turn down the volume during loud scenes, then the 2808 would do.

Fellow Denon Owners

Is it safe to use the AVR1508 at reference volume level? By the way , what is the reference volume level in movie playback?

Since it is an entry-level amp , will it be able to deliver all the "ooohhhsss" and "aaahhhsss"?  Am currently using it in a small room and also using a subwoofer.

Tnx

it should be ok.  i used to have the 1508 on display in my showroom hooked up to the infinity primus. i would play it quite loud. around -10 to -8.  :)

Thanks for the inputs!  Greatly considered the pros for the 2809 but in the end I decided to go for the cheaper 2808 and use the extra cash to buy other gadgets.

Another question I have is will it make sense to connect the 2808 with a 5 channel power amp na rated 100wpc?  2808 is already rated 110wpc......

I use my 2808 as a pre amp/processor with a Rotel 1565 five channel power amp (100wpc). I noticed that I could play movies and music at louder volumes and yet my ears are less fatigued. I guess it depends on your preference, the 2808's internal amps are good enough in my opinion.

Mga sirs,

Anybody here using 3806, 3808 or 3809? I can't find the sleep function of the receiver at hindi ko magamit pampatulog sa gabi dahil ayoko na matulugan. Funny because i've been using the receiver for 5 months now but I cant find the "sleep button" anywhere in the remote & receiver. The remote sucks too, maganda lang tignan kasi LCD touchscreen pero ang hirap gamitin at malakas sa battery.

Thanks in advance!

I never been so happy with my audio listening when I played David Foster "You're The Inspiration Album" in direct mode "not pure direct" with the Denon 3806. Angganda!!!!! Pati asawa ko na busy reviewing for board exams hindi na nagreview dahil na-amaze sya ganda ng tunog ng music. Marami akong collection na audiophile CDs pero mukhang mas bagay ang live performance sa receiver na ito. ;D

I think Denon has not yet released 3809.   This model is not found in Denon's US and Japan websites.  http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/AVReceivers.asp; http://denon.jp/products/avamp.html

Some says that Denon will skip 3809 and launch 3810 instead.  Check here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1056872
