you add a buffer because you don't want the output of your source say a phono preamp to be loaded down by your interconnecting cables, specialy if those cables are quite long...... ;)

in other instances you do not need a buffer at all.... :D

but buffers do add flavoring if you will.... ;D

In the case of a CD player and a Pre-amp or Integrated Amplifier, both gears would have specifications and the corresponding input and output impedance are indicated accordingly.  You can then compare the data whether it matches.  These can also be applied between a preamp and a power amp.

Hi sir Tony,

In your experience would a pure SS tube buffer also add flavoring similar to tubed ones?

Thanks and regards,
JoeyGS

Yes Pure SS buffer.  But would a pure SS buffer present a more natural sound quality over the Tubed buffer?

how? the input impedance of a buffer is extremely high as its output impedance is extremely low. if this is not the case, then there will be no purpose of adding a "buffer".

How would you know this?

you check the specs of the buffer....its input and output impedances.

What brand is the one made in australia?  What I am aware of is the B1 of Nelson Pass and likewise the MF V10D.

tube buffers present more warmth, ss have less colorations, so it depends on your tastes......
