I have tried all kinds of DVD disk with my Nextbase player (R1,R3,DVD9,pdisk) and so far no problems naman na encounter ko. I was going to buy a Pioneer sana, but upon further consultation with bestbuy I finally decide to go with Nextbase since trip ko lang talaga is manood.

If you have extra money to spare then go for branded, but if you have a tight budget then I suggest you buy Nextbase. I bought mine (I got the new model) at Watson's (its near LRT-Carriedo Station) at 4.6 thousand with 6 months warranty. Raon Electronics Mall is offering the old model at 4.3 thou only kaya lang baka next time na bumalik ako doon iba na nag-occupy ng stall wala na ako hahabulin for the warranty. At least sa Watson, confident ako na nandoon lang talaga. Very good ang service doon kya you won't regret buying from them.

GO FOR NEXTBASE, YOU WONT REGRET IT!!

Watson's Is a well known store in QUIAPO for Camera enthusiasts, they have quite a reputation for their reasonable prices, I am not sure though for the warranties since most of the purchases I've made there revolves around Nikon products, and the warranties are often outlived by the bought products.

If your'e looking for a reasonably priced Nikon or Olympus, Watson is the place to go.

Alfie ...tried almost all, pdisk, R1, R3, R4, MP3, VCD. so far, so good! one thing na lang...durability! tatagal kaya ito. Ever since I bought this, every day ginagamit ko especially on weekends. from morning till night.

great buys i'm not sure if my nextbase is the old one or the new one. How can you tell and what's the difference?

Tx My cousin's Very very Cheap VCD player has suffered all the abuse my cousin can bestow upon it(wanna know if the warranty will work

) and it's been 2 years now, and it hadn't conked out on him. I've also observed this with the Hospital where my wife works.(VCD player's being abused by the Karoake marathon sessions)

I actually find the China based players more durable than the Malaysian manufactured ones, however as what I've reiterated in the Generics thread, there will always be lemons, and the good news here is that the symptoms for the Lemons will usually emerge within the first few weeks(3-4 weeks), afterwhich most of the stories I hear are Happily ever after ones.(an exemption seems to be the case of the NIVA as reported by Battousai, which conked out after 3 months of use)

One recomendation that I usually make is to utitize am 8-12 in. blade electric fan, to cool ypour unit..... if you cannot help but go and utilize your player for 6-8 hrs. of movie marathons.

Alfie I agree with you with that. My player is on its 4th week and seems to be working fine. Still have 5 months to go till the warranty expires. But got a feeling that this player will really last.

your recommendation is really a must. been doing this every time i use my player. dual purpose kasi since tinatamaan din ng fan yung AVR ko.

There are now 2 models of the Nextbase dvd9000 available, an older version and the new one. The one I bought is the newer model. Though it has surround audio outputs at the back of the unit, it was not able to produce the dts sound from my p_ten commandment disc. Siguro the p_disk does not have dts decoding.

How can you tell which is new and which is old? Both front and rear of the units differ in appearance. So far, the most obvious difference I have noticed is sa likod ng unit. The old one has lesser RCA phono outputs (no surround decoding). The new one has more audio RCA phono outputs for the Dolby Digital 5.1

Hey Great Buys,

Your post seems to be an echo of my test experience.
The p_ten commandments has DTS encoded. It was
decoded by other players with DTS decoders. The
Next base has no DTS decoder as even specified
in their website.

great buys medyo nalito yata ako...how many audio outputs meron player mo..mine..2 digital(coaxial,optical) 6 analog DD (FL,FR,RL,RR,Center,SW) and 2 analog (2 channel) RCA. Total - 8.

meron bang additional 2 output yun model mo? that means old model pala nabili ko. anyway oks lang yun since the reason i bought this player is it could read almost all the disks in the market, whether R1 or pdisk.

When I bought this, nakaprint naman sa box and also in the player na DTS digital out. So di ko na inexpect na may built-in DTS decoder ito.

I've test this with a R1 THE MUSKETEER (DTS), walang lumabas na sound when I select the DTS although nagappear yun logo ng DTS sa player. SETUP - DVD player connected to my ONKYO AVR thru 2 channel analog output. Luma na kasi itong AVR ko, no DTS/DD5.1 decoder, no 5.1 analog inputs. Kailangan ko na talagang magupgrade ng AVR.....grrrr gastos na naman.

well, nice to hear that your model has a built-in DTS decoder. This will surely make NEXTBASE as the BEST BUY and GREAT BUY...ok ba!

i have p-discs which are dual layer. nextbase is able to play it all.

just a tip for those who are buying the nextbase. bring along your favorite dvd discs (recommend to bring along all types, pdiscs, dual layer, etc)

i bought the nextbase a month ago but it didnt play most of my pdiscs especially the dual layer. i returned the unit & had it replaced (buti na lang may 6mo warranty). now my unit plays all my dvd discs.

To all Nextbase Fans Image Electronics have a Portable DVD Nextbase player on sale...however I find it expensive at Php6,500.00..negotiable to Php6,200.00.

I posted some of the specs that I remember in the Portable DVD thread.

If your'e really interested...wait for it to come out in Quiapo, it'll probably go lower than your Standard sized Nextbase.

Yes that is the new series of Next Base DVD 9000.
It really has no DTS decoder, pass through lang.
It has Dolby Digital decoder.

ang alam ko wala talagang dts encoder, kahit yung bago, dts out lang for a receiver capable of dts encoding

Just went to raon this afternoon, DV 9000 is Php 4,300.00 . When I approach the saleslady the first time, she replied Php 4,500.00 but was quick to react after that the price down to Php 4,300.00 when we are about to leave. I try nyo mag bargain baka bumaba pa.

qwerty765 I think perds was referring to the standard sized Nextbase 9000, that goes for Php4,300.00....however if not...and Perds was referring to the Portable DVD player.....I think this is a good price.

well took the plunge and bought a next base too. I bought mine sa intendo sa Virra. Selling price was 4.800 but got it down to 4,500 ,may libreng mic pa.

Pwede pa ipa replace if it turns out na defective. They also had the new portable one but i forgot to ask the price.

edited to add:

question lang about the macro. I have a 6 head phillips kasi na kahit pioneer na dvd player kaya niya i over ride yung macro. Has anyone tried recording with a different brand of VHS player? may macro ba?
